Lighting safety is one of the critical factors for two-wheeler rides as it directly hampers visibility, rider knowledge, and road safety. With LED lights in place, various modern bikes and scooters have seen the replacement of traditional bulbs.
However, both lights have their own benefits and drawbacks that must be considered to decide which is the ultimate choice and which is best suited to two-wheelers. Below, we will compare the efficiency, brightness, cost, and flexibility of halogen and LED lights.
Headlights in a vehicle are important for safety on the roads, especially in low light, darkness, or even fog. They help riders see obstacles, pedestrians, and other vehicles and act in time to avoid an accident. Good headlights ensure that not only the rider can see but also others can see the vehicle.
The two-wheeler market contains the oldest fixture, halogen lights. The beam they produce is warm and stable enough to provide lighting well during most conditions. Such as riding in the morning or daily commuting into the city or the subways.
A halogen bulb operates by passing a current through a tungsten filament enclosed within a glass casing filled with halogen gas. This produces a yellowish color and a warm light. The Bajaj Pulsar 150 and the TVS Apache RTR 160 are the best two bikes with halogen lights.
One of the main reasons halogen lights are so popular is their low price. A burned-out halogen bulb would be relatively inexpensive to replace. This makes them an excellent substitute for riders with budgetary concerns and effectively disperses light for conditions that involve fog and dust. Below are the 5 benefits of using a halogen light:
Despite their advantages, halogen lights have some notable disadvantages. For one, they consume more power and produce a lot of heat, which can stress the electrical system of a two-wheeler. Below are the five disadvantages of halogen lights in vehicles.
LEDs have recently become the favorite light among two-wheeler manufacturing companies and riders. Due to their excellent brightness, energy efficiency, and durability, they are chosen the most by riders.
LEDs have revolutionized the illumination of two-wheelers. They emit light through semiconductors, which makes them extremely efficient in terms of energy usage and longevity. Furthermore, the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and the Honda H’ness CB350 are the two best bikes with LED lights.
Modern LED lights have some intelligent features, such as adaptive lighting. Further, they change the angle and intensity of beams according to the speed and pitch of the bike, maximizing the cyclist's safety. Here are the 5 benefits of LED lights in vehicles.
However, LED lights have disadvantages, too. Although their cooler color temperature gives a clearer beam in clear weather, it is problematic in foggy or dusty conditions. The LED light scatters more easily, which reduces the visibility. Let us know about the five disadvantages of LED lights in vehicles.
The best way to make an informed decision is to test motorcycles or scooters equipped with both halogen and LED lighting. During the test ride, riders can experience both high and low beams, learn about the spread of light, and assess any adaptive lighting features. Test rides also allow riders to gauge whether the light causes eye strain or discomfort over a prolonged time, which can impact long-term comfort and alertness.

Bajaj has launched the Freedom 125 in India at a starting price of Rs 95,000. It is the world's first CNG bike, and many customers might worry about the safety of having a CNG tank on a bike. Every year, many CNG cars fail, and bikes are more exposed than cars. Bajaj assures that the bike has been thoroughly tested for safety. The manufacturer says the bike has passed 11 different crash and impact tests at their test facility. How Bajaj Tested the New Freedom 125 CNG Bike Bajaj tested the bike from different angles. In the Front Collision Test, the Freedom 125 CNG bike crashed into a 1.5-ton moving barrier at a speed of 60kmph. Moreover, the company also did a Truck Runover Test, where a 10-ton truck was driven over the CNG bike. This test simulates a situation where the rider falls off and the bike gets run over by a truck. In both the Front Collision Test and the Truck Runover Test, the bike handled the impacts well. The CNG tank stayed in place, kept its shape, and did not leak.Bajaj also performed nine other tests: a Frontal Pendulum Test, a Rear Impact Test, a Left Side Impact Test, a Right Side Impact Test, a Vertical Drop Test, a 50kg Filling Unit Strength Test, two types of CNG Valve Impact Tests (to see if the valve breaks on impact), and a 20G Pull Out Test. Impact tests involved hitting the bike with a moving barrier, while drop tests involved dropping the bike from a height. What is Bajaj Providing in Freedom 125 CNG Bike?Bajaj designed the trellis frame and subframe to keep the CNG cylinder safe. These frames act like cages to protect the cylinder from damage in a crash. The engine is also placed away from the CNG cylinder, so the heat from the engine doesn’t affect the CNG tank. This is important because the CNG tank holds pressurized gas, which can expand when it gets hot. When filling the CNG tank, you need to get off the bike and stand at least 5 feet away. This safety measure at CNG fuel stations helps prevent accidents in case the CNG cylinder explodes. Before you go, don’t forget to check out the June 2024 FADA two-wheeler sales report. The model line will receive better styling and new features for the upcoming year. Subtle Styling Tweaks and Major Upgrades The styling updates are very subtle, but this is the first major design change since the bike's launch in 2019. The bodywork has been slightly revised and comes with new LED lights. The 16-litre fuel tank has been shifted a little forward to enhance balance and reduce top heaviness. The seat design has also been updated for comfort. The Japanese manufacturer has retained the bike's double-cradle frame in its original form, although the silencer bracket and luggage mounts have been tweaked. The footpegs are wider, too, and the Tenere 700 has updated its suspension system. The fully adjustable version gets 210mm of travel with 43mm upside-down forks and a remote adjuster at the rear for 200mm of travel. The well-known 698cc parallel-twin motor has been refreshed and features a ride-by-wire throttle. As such, the motor gains two riding modes - Sport and Explorer. Additionally, a shorter air intake duct improves the torque curve. The bike has been rebuilt on the six-speed gearbox. A new clutch cover design helps to make less contact with the leg during rides. In terms of features, the new Tenere 700 has a 6.3-inch TFT screen that resembles a digital rally book. It also includes a standard USB-C charging port, and the switchgear has been completely redesigned.
