The 648cc parallel-twin engine on the upcoming Royal Enfield Scram 650, also known as the Interceptor Bear 650, will deliver approximately 47 bhp and 52 Nm of torque.
Leading Indian motorcycle manufacturer Royal Enfield has just launched the Guerrilla 450. The company aims to expand its range of high-performance single-cylinder models, which currently include the Sherpa 450. Now, the company is shifting focus to the 650cc twin-cylinder variants, such as the recent Royal Enfield Interceptor. The design of the Bear 650 has been trademarked.
The design of the Scram 650 has also been trademarked. Since the introduction of the 650 Twins, Royal Enfield motorcycles have gained a new reputation for smoother engines and active oil cooling. Additionally, the bike is paired with a 6-speed gearbox and a slipper clutch for better riding experience and performance.
With the 650 platform, Royal Enfield secured a dominant position in India’s 500cc+ motorcycle segment, grabbing a market share of 90%. The company has already introduced four models to this platform: the Interceptor 650, the Continental GT 650, the Super Meteor 650, and the new Shotgun 650.
There is also a Scrambler-like motorcycle based on the 650 platform in development called the Scram 650. It is called the Interceptor Bear 650. The name has already been trademarked, confirming that it is based on the Interceptor 650.
Royal Enfield has popularised the likes of Guerrilla and Bear as part of its new branding. Once launched, the Interceptor Bear 650 Royal Enfield should be the most featured and compact 650cc model available. The new Scrambler retains most of the design of the Interceptor 650 but with USD telescopic front forks. Additionally, the bike features front and rear LED turn indicators, scrambler-style braced handlebars, and dual-purpose CEAT tyres. Notably, it has a single-sided exhaust setup and can keep weight below 200 kg.
Similar to its other 650cc models, the Royal Enfield Scram 650 or Interceptor Bear 650 will feature the same 648cc parallel-twin oil-cooled engine. The engine will produce 47 bhp of peak power and 52 Nm of peak torque paired with a 6-speed gearbox and slipper clutch.
Moreover, the engine will be tuned to match the bike's characteristics and the new exhaust setup. Feature-wise, this upcoming Scrambler will include Royal Enfield's Tripper Dash, also available in the Guerrilla 450 and Himalayan 450. This screen supports Google Maps, music control, and a wide range of connectivity features via a smartphone app.
The Royal Enfield Scram 650 is expected to be priced between Rs 3.2 lakh and Rs 3.3 lakh (ex-showroom). This multi-cylinder scrambler motorcycle will be the most affordable, offering decent performance and plenty of retro charm. It is expected to launch at the end of 2024 or early 2025.
