With the Destini 125 (drum brakes), which is the cheapest scooter of them all, Hero makes its imprint in this market. It is actually the only 125cc motorcycle available for less than Rs 75,000. It lacks a lot of features, though, so we wouldn’t recommend it.
The TVS Jupiter 125, Honda Activa 125, or Suzuki Access 125 are all great choices if you’re looking for one. Jupiter is the most expensive of the bunch, costing roughly Rs 5000 more than the Activa and Rs 2000 more than the Access in its top configuration. The underfloor petrol tank and apron-mounted fuel filler translate to 33-litre under-seat storage, the largest among all Indian scooters. Still, you also get a tonne of practical features for the extra cash. Additionally, the rear suspension’s three-step preload adjustability lets you quickly switch between a comfortable commute and sporty corner carving.
Because it is the only vehicle among the three with smartphone connectivity and because of its engine’s apparent “dual-natured” behaviour, we would thus choose the Suzuki Access. Due to its refined behaviour, it is the perfect travel companion. However, when necessary, it does have a sporty performance turn.
There are many possibilities in this area for performance, speaking of which. You can choose between the Burgman Street 125, which was recently modified with a larger 12-inch rear wheel, the Aprilia SR 125, the Vespa 125 range (which includes the Vespa SXL125, Vespa VXL 125, and the Vespa ZX 125), the Suzuki Avenis, and the Aprilia 125. However, the TVS NTorq 125, particularly in its Race XP trim, continues to be the leader in this class and our choice. It is a quick performer and, when needed, can also function as a reliable commuter.
Finally, the Yamaha Ray ZR and Fascino both have a secret weapon up their sleeves in the form of a hybrid assist to their engine when it comes to efficiency.
In conclusion, the 125cc scooter market has something to offer everyone, from the weekend corner carver to the business commuter. The type of riding you’re looking forward to and, of course, your wallet are the sole determining factors.
