Honda is apparently developing a new affordable commuter vehicle. In that sense, the Japanese company has now patentably created a new design in India. Let's look at it.
From the design patent, one can see that it was made to be priced aggressively in the entry sector, even by commuter budget standards. Unfortunately, the name of this forthcoming motorcycle is unknown as of now. Nevertheless, it is comparable to the CG Dream line of low-cost commuter cars offered in developing nations like Pakistan.
Honda sells a CG 125 Dream with spoked wheels in Pakistan. However, a 110cc engine that is now used in the CD 110 Dream will most likely be installed in India by HMSI. Honda's entry-level model, the CD 110 Dream, is now struggling to compete with the Hero Splendor despite having a larger 110cc engine than the 100cc model and being priced similarly.
Honda can try to match Splendor Plus' Rs. 71.5K pricing point by releasing a 125cc motorcycle with spoked wheels and basic features. By doing this, Honda can anticipate pushing the higher volume and snatching up part of Splendor's pie.
A third option is to introduce a new 100cc engine and compete head-to-head with Splendor Plus, which also receives a 100cc engine and even undercuts the latter in price. By taking this path, HMSI will be able to compete with Hero HF Deluxe, the fourth-best-selling motorbike in India and a complete steal at Rs. 55,000.
Despite the fact that it is still extremely early to speculate on a flex-fuel offering, it is a possibility. This is due to the new, inexpensive Honda commuter motorcycle's extremely huge engine case, which is patented in India.
However, it appears that the engine casing extends beyond the frame of its cradle. Unless it carries additional flex-fuel technology equipment, this is odd for a cheap motorcycle with just a 100-125cc engine. A double-cradle chassis, telescopic front forks, double shock absorbers at the back, a single-piece seat, and spoked wheels are notable features. Honda's new entry-level commuter will compete with Hero HF Deluxe and Splendor Plus when it is released this year. This forthcoming motorcycle is probably best priced in the range of Rs. 60-70k.
