Through KTM dealerships, the Bajaj Chetak electric scooter will enter the European market in 2024. The Austrian company is also developing its own electric motorcycle, which is planned for release in the upcoming years.
Stefan Pierer, the Global CEO of KTM AG, said in a statement, “We will be launching Chetak in 2024. It may hit roads post March, as it is a starting time for the on-road season. The price point will be very competitive, and it will be taking on products from Chinese and Taiwanese companies. It will be across all central European markets.”
Pierer further explained how he wants to retain the iconic Chetak Brand that boasts the richest history in the industry. “The second generation is a very nice product. We will use it as Chetak, it is a known brand and we will be saving money on marketing and digitalisation. Secondly, Chetak stands for its famous history in India and it will help us too.”
Along with Bajaj Auto, KTM is developing a 48-volt electric motorcycle that is anticipated to go on sale in the upcoming years and enter the Indian market.
Pierer was in India when the one millionth KTM motorcycle was unveiled at the Chakan facility of Bajaj Auto.
KTM reached this milestone after 12 years, and according to Pierer, the next million will be reached in just under half that time. Pierer further added, “We are doing about 1.5 lakh to 1.6 lakh units per annum, so the next million should happen in five or six years.”
KTM sold over 3.7 lakh units worldwide in the year 2022, with about 1.5 lakh units, or 40%, coming from India. Commenting on the future growth potential for India, the CEO informed the press, “We have finalised our plan for 2023 and we have budgeted for India to grow by 10 percent.”
