Recently, Aprilia India posted a teaser image of the much-awaited RS440 on its official social media accounts. Although there are only a few revelations, it is expected that the brand is going to launch a sub-500cc sport bike. The most recent teaser image features the supersport motorcycle's body & the date September 7, 2023. The mentioned date gives clues about the launch date.
Furthermore, the new RS440 is expected to be powered by a 440cc parallel-twin engine. The Italian bike maker would also benefit from adding the Aprilia RS440 to its India range by filling the current gap in its line-up. The 125cc & 160cc scooters from Aprilia are currently its top volume sellers. Aprilia 660cc bikes are imported in a restricted number of CKDs.
In addition to the teaser, an Aprilia test mule has been spotted across India on many occasions. This further feeds rumours that the spotted bike might be the RS440. From the engine cases to the exterior, the upcoming model is similar to the Aprilia RS660 & Tuono 660. According to images posted by the manufacturer, the bike appears to be riding with a neutral posture & a mild lean angle.
Despite having the rear-set foot pegs, the pulled-back handlebar reduces the overall leaning angle. The Aprilia RS440 shares many similarities with its older sibling regarding style, even though a new engine & chassis are projected. The model has a massive bike impression because of the large fuel tank & conspicuous fairing. The tri-headlight configuration, a sizably big windscreen, trapezoidal rear-view mirrors, a sturdy engine cowl, a step-up seat, and a raised tail section are distinctive features adapted from Aprilia bikes with higher carrying capacity.
Hardware-wise, the RS440 features a mono-shock in the back and an upside-down front fork. Braking will be accomplished with a single ABS-equipped front and rear disc. The motorcycle will have 17-inch alloy wheels with perhaps road-biassed TVS Eurogrip rubber. Sleek brake rotors, a radial front brake calliper, and light alloy rims may be included as extra parts.
As we already know, the new Aprilia RS440 will feature a smaller engine than its older sibling. The new motorbike is anticipated to be powered by a 440cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine, producing 48bhp max power output. The engine will be mated to a six-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch & quick-shifter. The motorbike can reach 180 km/h max speed.
The RS440 is expected to have the newest features, including ride-by-wire, traction control & cornering ABS. As per Indian safety rules, the motorbike may include a saree guard. The feature list includes an anti-lock braking system & an all-LED lighting system. The list further includes a completely digital TFT display with Smartphone connectivity, several riding modes, and more.
The RS440 will compete against bikes like the Kawasaki Ninja 400, KTM RC 390, and the soon-to-debut Yamaha YZF-R3.
