Jupiter 125 Project Update and Market Entry Insights

TVS Jupiter CNG Side Angle
According to an online report, TVS is developing a CNG scooter based on the Jupiter 125. Brands have explored CNG powertrains and other fuel technologies. With the launch of the Bajaj Freedom 125, TVS' entry into the CNG two-wheeler market is a natural one in Eve.

The report said that work on the CNG scooter project, dubbed the U720, has already begun, and production is expected to start in September or October 2024. The CNG scooter is likely to be launched by the end of 2024 or the year 2025 first half.

A 125cc engine will power the Jupiter CNG scooter and may feature a hybrid petrol and CNG powertrain similar to the recently launched Bajaj Freedom 125. Its performance is expected to be comparable to a 110cc petrol-powered scooter.

CNG bikes and scooters provide a middle ground between petrol and electric bikes, offering lower energy consumption compared to petrol equivalents. The Freedom 125 has a 2kg CNG tank, a 2-litre fuel tank and a claimed range of about 330 km.

With the launch of the TVS CNG scooter, it will be the world’s first CNG scooter and India’s second two-wheeler CNG scooter. While it won’t have a direct competitor, it will compete with other 110cc scooters in the market, such as the Hero Xoom 110, Honda Activa 6G and Honda Dio.
