Mahindra Set To Invest Rs 535 Crore in Classic Legends

Mahindra Set To Invest Rs 535 Crore in Classic Legends

Mahindra & Mahindra has just made waves in the Indian two-wheeler market by announcing that it will be investing up to Rs 525 crore in its Classic Legends. Classic Legends, as we all know, owns 3 brands -Yezdi, Jawa & BSA.

The company further added that the manufacturer will invest up to Rs 875 crore in the next 3 years. Some of this money will come from other investors, too. The goal is to strengthen Classic Legends' position in the premium motorcycle market in India, especially with the entry of competitors like Harley Davidson and Triumph through Indian companies like Hero MotoCorp and Bajaj Auto.

On Wednesday, Mahindra and Mahindra, known for SUVs like Thar, Scorpio-N, and XUV700, shared this news in an official filing. Currently, Mahindra owns around 60% of Classic Legends, a brand it revived to support motorcycle manufacturers like Jawa, Yezdi, and BSA. With this additional investment, Classic Legends aims to enhance its presence in India's premium motorcycle segment. The names of the other investors contributing to the investment have not been disclosed.

Classic Legends played a role in reviving iconic two-wheeler brands like Yezdi and Jawa. Last year, Yezdi returned to the Indian market with three new motorcycles: Adventure, Scrambler, and Roadster, priced between ₹1.98 lakh and ₹2.10 lakh (ex-showroom). Despite these efforts, Classic Legends has not achieved the same success as Royal Enfield.

The premium motorcycle market in India is currently dominated by Royal Enfield, a brand owned by Eicher Motors. Recently, Royal Enfield launched the new Himalayan motorcycle. Harley Davidson also made a comeback to the Indian market, introducing the X440 motorcycle earlier this year. Co-developed with Hero MotoCorp, it is the most affordable Harley-Davidson motorcycle available in India, with a price range of ₹2.29 lakh to ₹2.69 lakh (ex-showroom).
