Did This Chinese Company Just Clone The BMW GS 1250’s Styling Along With Its Name too?

The BMW R 1250 GS is the bikemaker’s current flagship ADV model. Since BMW invented the GS designation, off-road bikes have been associated with it. But you guessed it—Vinto Motors, a lesser-known Chinese bike manufacturer, cloned both the motorbike’s design and the name!

The Vinto GS 525 is a motorcycle that resembles the BMW R 1250 GS bike when looked at from the side. It has a similarly sized fuel tank (a 21-litre one, congrats!) and gold-rimmed tubeless 19- and 17-inch wire-spoke wheels. It also has a single-sided swingarm, which is a tribute to Vinto’s dedication. In addition, a USD fork and preload-adjustable mono-shock in the suspension system appear to be well-suited for the task.

Meanwhile, the ‘GS’ badge on the tank uncomfortably resembles the one on the German bike, which is disappointing in our opinion. Moving further, all preconceived notions about the GS vanish when you notice that the headlight is similar to the Honda CB500X but flanked by two slanting LED DRLs.

With the engine, the Honda connection is still present. The Vinto has a parallel twin that, of course, is based on the one from the Honda CB500X in place of the BMW “boxer” twin. This Loncin engine, designed for the Chinese market, has a 494cc displacement and is rated at 53.8 BHP. However, the Vinto GS motorbike may not have as much of a performance advantage over the CB, given its weight of 205 kilogrammes (kerb).

Moving on to the feature set, there is a decent selection, including a 7-inch TFT console with navigation and USB charging that is compatible with smartphones. Furthermore, the metal crash protection is available right from the factory, unlike the hard case panniers and auxiliary lights. Oddly enough, the Zontes 350T provides the same.

In the end, though, the likelihood of Vinto GS525 entering the Indian market is slim since not only is Vinto a completely unheard-of brand but also because of its price (35,980 yuan, or around Rs 4.37 lakh, without taxes). Therefore, the KTM 390 Adventure is our top pick because it is a tried-and-true performer and because it has just been found with wire-spoke wheels, which is a plus for dedicated off-roaders.
