Yamaha R3, MT-03 to Launch at The End of This Year In India

The Yamaha Bikes will be imported from Indonesia in CBU form first.

The Yamaha R3 and MT-03 have generated lots of excitement among motorcycle enthusiasts in India, and an update on their launch timeline was provided recently. According to Yamaha India chairman Eishin Chihana, both bikes are slated to be introduced closer to the end of the financial year. It suggests a potential launch window between December 2023 and March 2024.

What’s New in Yamaha R3 and MT-03?

Unlike before, the R3 and MT-03 will arrive in India as CBUs from Indonesia, with Yamaha eventually transitioning to completely knocked-down production. The previous-generation BS4 R3 was priced at around Rs 3.5 lakh before being discontinued previously.

The new model brings notable improvements, such as a USD fork and revised styling. Considering these enhancements, the 2023 Yamaha R3 may be relatively expensive, potentially exceeding Rs 4 lakh. But, to appeal to a large customer base, it can make it available at the same or a lower price.

Updates in Yamaha R3

The 2023 Yamaha R3 received several updates in the form of new LED indicators and a fresh purple colour option. The bike continues to feature the same liquid-cooled, 321cc parallel-twin engine that produces 42 hp at 10,750 rpm and 29.5 Nm of torque at 9,000 rpm

The R3 is built on a diamond frame and comes with a 37mm USD fork. It is also equipped with a preload adjustable monoshock, both supplied by KYB. Basic features include a slipper clutch, all-LED lighting, dual-channel ABS, and an LCD display.

Launch Details, Competitions and Pricing of Yamaha MT-03 and R3

There is no confirmation whether the MT-03 will launch alongside the R3 or at a later date. Yamaha is determined to expand the MT brand in India and intends to introduce the twin-cylinder MT-03 to the market. Comparison of R3 is to its parallel twin's sportbike rivals like the Ninja 300 and Ninja 400. The Ninja 300 is priced at around Rs 3.43 lakh, while the Ninja 400 costs approximately Rs 5.19 lakh Ex-showroom price.
