Vespa GTS Spied Testing: Here’s What to Expect

The India-spec Vespa GTS scooter was spotted in test mode, and it appears to be ready for production.

Piaggio India appears to be focusing on a promising future for the country. We originally learned about Vespa's potential future plans for India almost three years ago in an exclusive piece regarding a scooter with a larger capacity.

According to a spy photo that has surfaced online, a larger displacement Vespa scooter that has been built especially for the Indian market appears to be in the works. With the exception of the rear indicators and tail light housing design, this scooter's design is quite similar to the international-spec GTS 300 maxi-scooter. The test mule also has a fully-digital instrument panel.

This test mule appears to have a smaller airbox than its international equivalent, and it is said that the engine is air-cooled rather than the liquid-cooled one seen in the GTS 300. Additionally, it appears to be larger than the 125cc and 150cc motors found on the brand's Indian series of scooters, and the absence of a kickstarter does suggest that this mill is a sub-300cc unit.

The rear drum brake is also out of place compared to the international-spec bike, which, combined with the air-cooled motor, appears to suggest that Vespa is trying to keep the price of this forthcoming scooter under control. We anticipate that this scooter will have a single-channel ABS safety net.
