The New Thruxton 400 could be a bobber based on a 400cc platform.
Triumph revealed its new 400cc liquid-cool platform with the new Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X. During the presentation, the British manufacturer reminded spectators of its legacy bikes, such as the 1937 Speed Twin. It also showcases the world's first production scrambler, the 1963 Bonneville T120TT, and the original 1960s cafe racer, the Bonneville T120. Indeed, the 400cc platform can offer flexibility in designing different motorcycle styles, including a cafe racer.
The Speed Twin 900/ 1200, Scrambler 900/1200, and Thruxton RS is all given a contemporary, big-bike makeover. With the introduction of the Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400 X, it stands to reason that the next motorbike may be a 400cc version of the Thruxton. It's hardly unexpected, given that the 400cc base is adaptable enough to allow a cafe racer without major modifications.
The Thruxton 1200 is highly known for its cafe racer styling and performance. The introduction of a smaller-displacement version could attract cafe racing enthusiasts. Similarly, Triumph has demonstrated its ability to diversify the Bonneville lineup with models like the Bonneville Bobber. The bobber style, characterised by minimalist design, a strip-down look, and a focus on a low-slung riding position, has gained popularity among riders.
We can expect comparisons of the Thruxton 1200 with Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 and the Jawa 42 Bobber. Even if Triumph has anything similar in the works, its release will take some time, and the Bobber 400 will arrive even later than the Thruxton 400. So, till then, it has fantastically priced Speed 400 and the soon-to-be-released Scrambler 400 X in the lineup.
