Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS: Spied Know About the Features & Specifications

The Triumph Speed Triple was launched in 1994 and became popular for its strong engine and unique style. It began with an 885cc engine but got upgrades over time to make it faster and handle better.

Now, a new version of the Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS has been seen testing overseas. The pictures taken show that it has lots of advanced electronics to help with things like traction control and braking. Also, the way you sit on the bike might be sportier and more aggressive compared to before.

Here are the details and specifications of the Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS bike.

Speed 1200 RS: Engine Specifications

The Speed Triple 1200 RS comes with an 1160cc liquid-cooled, 3-cylinder with a 12-valve DOHC engine. Its engine delivers a maximum power of 177.5 hp @ 10,750 rpm and a torque of 125 Nm @ 9,000 rpm. The compression ratio is 13.2:1, ensuring efficient combustion.

Fuel is delivered through multipoint sequential electronic fuel injection with electronic throttle control that offers precise control over fuel delivery. The exhaust system consists of a stainless steel 3-into-1 header with a primary silencer underneath the bike and a secondary silencer mounted on the side. Moreover, the power is transmitted to the rear wheel via an X-ring chain final drive. Its engine is coupled with a 6-speed gearbox, offering smooth and precise shifting. The clutch is wet, multi-plate, and features slip and assist functions.

Speed 1200 RS: Hardware

The Speed Triple 1200 RS has projected aluminium wheels. The front wheel measures 17 inches in width and 3.50 inches wide, while the back tyre is 17 inches. The front tyre size is 120/70 ZR17, and the back tyre size is 190/55 ZR17, which helps offer good grip and stability on roads.

This bike accompanies Öhlins 43mm NIX30 upside-down forks at the front and an Öhlins TTX36 twin-tube monoshock at the rear end. In addition, both offer adjustable preload, rebound, and pressure damping. This arrangement is considered a smooth and controlled ride, with 120mm of travel for both the front and rear suspension.

This Triumph bike has twin 320mm floating discs at the front, grabbed by Brembo Stylema monobloc callipers, and a single 220mm disc at the back. A Brembo twin-piston calliper constrains these brakes. Also, the bike is furnished with OC-ABS for upgraded safety during braking.

Speed 1200 RS: What Improvements Can Be Made?

The Speed Triple 1200 RS costs around Rs 17.95 lakh in India. But when the updated model comes out, it might cost more. Still, compared to similar bikes from Ducati, Kawasaki, BMW, and Aprilia, the Speed Triple is more affordable. Those other bikes usually cost over Rs 20 lakh in India.

The new model of the Speed Triple 1200 RS motorcycle is getting some upgrades. Instead of the manually adjustable Öhlins suspension, it will have an electronically adjustable suspension that you can control using buttons on the handlebars and the screen on the dashboard. These new suspension parts are taken from the Speed Triple 1200 RR, which is a similar bike but with a different body style.

There's also a new steering damper, which helps with stability and is noticeable under the headlights. The handlebars are different, too. They're called clip-on handlebars, and they make you lean forward more when riding compared to the current model. The wheels are getting a new design, and they'll have Pirelli Supercorsa tyres instead of Metzeler Racetec RR tyres like before.
