Over the past few years, the popularity of 250cc motorcycles has increased, prompting manufacturers to compete for a share of the market. Numerous genres in this market category, from cruisers and streetfighters to adventure tourers, have also emerged as a result of the increasing demand.
Although sales started the year strong, there has been a definite decline towards the tail end of 2022. Here are the top five motorcycles from the 250cc category last month.
The KTM bikes dominated the sales rankings this month, selling over 980 units in December 2022, a gain of 71 units from the previous year. Despite this, the figures are still not very spectacular, given that only a portion of the nation was under full lockdown. The 250 Duke and 250 Adventure are more reasonably priced than their 373cc siblings, coming in at Rs 2.37 lakh and Rs 2.44 lakh, respectively. Recently, these bikes also got new colourways, which might have helped with the increased sales numbers.
Even though the Bajaj Dominar 250 alone sold 406 units last month, it significantly decreased from December of the previous year, when it closed at 2,207 units. However, we really enjoy the Dominar 250 because it is a flexible machine with a tasty motor. Additionally, it is much more affordable at Rs 1.75 lakh while providing the same features as its 400cc sibling.
Last month, Suzuki's V-Strom SX sold a solid 291 units. Suzuki has made a number of adjustments to make it more than just a slap-on job, despite the fact that it is built on the Gixxer 250 basis. One is available for Rs. 2.11 lakh. Interestingly enough, the Hayabusa has the same number of units as its 250cc siblings!
The Bajaj Avenger Cruise 220, the oldest motorcycle present, is still selling well despite fierce competition, and 270 bikes were sold by Bajaj last month. The bike's most recent significant update was back in 2018. However, despite this, it still enjoys widespread popularity because of its inexpensive price of Rs 1.38 lakh, making it the second-most cost-effective cruiser in India behind the Avenger 160 Street.
The twin Pulsar 250s haven't exactly earned a name for themselves yet. Compared to December 2021, when Bajaj sold almost 2,600 models, it sold only 245 last month. Sales might increase if the bikes were updated with contemporary amenities like turn-by-turn navigation. Nevertheless, the business might experience positive growth in the coming year and, ideally, post higher revenue.
