Unlike the sales figures recorded in December 2022, the top 10 motorcycles in the 150cc to 200cc segment experienced a significant shift in January 2023. This segment has seen a lot of success in 2023, with the leading motorcycle brand, Pulsar, doubling its sales YoY.
In January 2023, a total of 122,369 motorcycles were sold in this segment. This represents a growth of 36.71% YoY and 27.92% MoM when compared to the 89,509 units sold in January 2022 and 95,658 units sold in December 2022. This equates to a volume increase of 32,860 units YoY(year on year) and 26,711 units MoM(month on month).
Bajaj Pulsar was the top-selling motorcycle in the 150cc to 200cc segment, with 34,307 units sold. Bajaj's sales figures more than doubled from the 16,646 units sold a year ago, with a YoY growth of 106.10% and a market share of 28.04%. MoM growth was only 1.49%. Bajaj gained 17,661 units in volume YoY(year on year) and 503 units MoM(month on month).
The TVS Apache series came in second on the list, with 28,811 units sold. TVS saw a YoY growth of 11.13% and MoM growth of 29.89%, compared to 25,925 and 22,181 units sold, respectively. Bajaj Apache kept 23.54% market share in the given chart. Honda's Unicorn sales grew to 22,019 units with a 27.02% MoM growth and almost doubled with 94.02% YoY.

Yamaha sold 12,822 FZs, 8,738 MT-15s, and 7,925 R15s last month, securing the 4th, 5th, and 6th positions on the sales list. The FZ saw an 18.51% YoY decline in sales, while the MT15 and R15 saw a YoY growth of 51300% and 28.95%, respectively.
In terms of MoM analysis, Yamaha performed well, with FZ and MT-15 sales figures more than doubling at 110% and 169.11%, respectively. R15 saw a MoM growth of just 16.08%. The Hero Xpulse 200 suffered a YoY decline in sales, with a 22.51% decrease, selling only 2,427 units. However, in terms of MoM growth, the Xpulse recorded the highest growth on this list at 170.87%.
KTM 200 sold only 2,427 units and experienced an 11.68% YoY decline, but sales figures improved with 18.06% MoM growth. Bajaj Avenger claimed the 9th position, with 1,701 units sold last month.
YoY growth was only 0.77%, while sales more than doubled MoM at 117.52%. Hero's 160cc motorcycle, the Xtreme 160R, sold just 989 units and incurred losses completely.

The recently launched Kawasaki W175 sold 241 units and even saw 7.59% MoM growth. Honda's Hornet 2.0, X-Blade, and CB200X managed to sell 213, 55, and 3 units, respectively, with zero growth for Honda with these offerings to register.
The Hornet lost 14.11%, X-Blade 75.56%, and CB200X 99.36% YoY. Lastly, the Suzuki Gixxer registered 0 sales, likely due to Suzuki's process of updating their Gixxer range. With the launch of the 2023 Gixxer, sales are expected to bounce back next month. The updated MY2023 models feature new colours and Bluetooth connectivity.
