This year, Piaggio Vehicles Pvt Ltd (PVPL) will celebrate 25 years of business in India. Piaggio Vehicles announced a flurry of new product debuts for the Vespa and Aprilia scooters to mark the event. In addition, according to the management, the Group’s premier racing motorbike brand, Aprilia, will enter the performance motorcycle market in India.
The company claims that the new scooters that are slated for introduction in India are made to accommodate a variety of riding conditions and requirements specific to that country. They also offer insight into scooters that fall outside the commuter segment, such as touring, cruising, luxury, racing, etc.
A new engine will be added to the whole Aprilia scooter lineup in order to boost acceleration and grade abilities. In addition, the Aprilia Typhoon, a scooter with a racing personality, will be added to the Aprilia SR line of scooters.
The Aprilia SXR line of maxi-scooters will have new models. Additionally, Aprilia will enter the mid-size motorcycle market this year with the release of the Aprilia RS 440. In India, this motorcycle will have the smallest displacement, competing with models like the KTM RC 390 and Kawasaki Ninja 400.
The introduction of the new Vespa Touring version will also update the Vespa scooter portfolio in India. In addition, new colour schemes for the Vespa product line will be included this year.
Diego Graffi, Chairman and Managing Director at Piaggio Vehicles Pvt Ltd, said, “It gives me the pride to say that all our 2-wheelers now come equipped with a technologically advanced i-get engine which is tuned to give a significant advantage in acceleration across 125 and 160-cc products and is fully OBD II compliant. As we continue to grow and pioneer India’s mobility, we feel there is massive potential for bringing in more of Piaggio’s global favourites to India.”
