Delivery of Ola Electric’s most affordable scooter, the S1 Air, will be put off by three months, the company announced on 9 February, Thursday.
The co-founder of the electric scooter manufacturer, Bhavish Aggarwal, claimed that the delay was brought on by the time needed to “accommodate” the new versions that were revealed on Thursday, as well as adjustments to the S1 Air’s original battery capacity.
The S1 Air, which retails for Rs 84,999, was expected to start shipping in March. OLA’s S1 Air costs between $84,999 and $94,999, and delivery is anticipated to begin in March. ACCORDING TO AGGARWAL, New S1 Air and S1 scooter models will include batteries with capacities of 2 kWh, 3 kWh, and 4 kWh.
“We had to push out deliveries by three months to accommodate the new choices we have brought to you today,” he said.
The battery size impacts the size and range of the vehicle. The price and range increase as the battery size does. Ola projected that the S1 Air’s battery would be 2.5 kwh in October. All S1 Air customers who made reservations before Thursday would receive a free upgrade to the 3 kWh battery size variation, according to Aggarwal.
A teaser for the next electric motorcycle, which is expected to be released earlier this year, was also released by Ola Electric. To comply with the new AIS-156 safety requirements imposed by the government, EV businesses are battling to modify their battery packs.
While the new regulation’s first phase began in December, the second, more rigorous phase is expected to go into effect on 31 March. As a result, sales of Ola Electric increased in January and the final quarter of 2022. This happened following a sales decline in the middle of 2022 brought on by a March scooter fire incident.
The business has been at the top of the sales charts, surpassing Hero Electric and Okinawa to take the top spot among manufacturers of electric two-wheelers.
The development also occurs at a time when the business is being investigated for allegedly abusing the FAME-II government subsidy programme.
On 9 February, we informed you that the government was investigating claims that four significant makers of electric two-wheelers had artificially lowered the prices of their products in order to qualify for subsidies.
According to senior government officials, Ola, Ather, TVS Motor, and Vida are being investigated for allegedly mispricing their electric two-wheelers in order to qualify for subsidies under the programme.
According to them, the EV manufacturers may have falsely claimed at least Rs 300 crore in subsidies.
