India has been adapting to the EV revolution like never before. The sales figure for the last few months has reflected the meteoric rise each month. Ola Electric has been leading this growth in the 2W EV segment and has recently announced various battery options for its S1 scooter range. Moreover, the company also gave us a little glimpse of its future 5 upcoming motorbikes that will soon hit the roads in the future.
The Ola Electric S1 and S1 Pro Scooter battery prices have been shared on Twitter by Mannu Bharadwaj.
Name of the Model | Price of the 3 kWh Battery | Price of the 4 kWh Battery |
Ola S1 | Rs. 66,549 | Rs. 87,298 |
Ola S1 Pro | Rs. 66,549 | Rs. 87,298 |
Comparing the price of these scooters to the price of their battery, the difference we see is staggeringly less. The batteries alone cost more than half of the entire scooter. For instance, the Nexon EV battery pack and electric motor have a price tag of RS 11 Lakh. Ergo, one really has to be aware of the costs of battery packs while buying EVs.
Ola Electric Batteries
Ola batteries that are interestingly shaped like a banana are indigenously designed and manufactured. And even though the brand is among India’s leading mass manufacturers of batteries, prices still seem to be relatively high. But, it is also necessary to note that India is still in its infant stages concerning battery production today.
Ola batteries boast of being a part of a high-voltage EV architecture as compared to the multiple slow-speed electric scooters on the market right now. Ola Motors can peak at 4.5 kW(S1 AIR) to 8.5 kW (S1 & S1 Pro). Battery optimisation and development costing add to the overall price of the battery pack too. Ola has produced its 2W lineup claims to extract a 181 km range from a single charge.
Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal announced today – “Ola will set up the world's largest EV hub with integrated 2W, Car and Lithium cell Gigafactories in Tamil Nadu”. In addition, the company has signed an MOU with the government of Tamil Nadu, which might help bring the average battery costs down in future.
As we mentioned earlier, Ola is working on 5 new motorcycles, and one of them might compete with Ultraviollete F77. Click HERE to read more about it!
