New Honda Electric Scooter Concept Unveiled At Japan Mobility Show 2023!

As we all are aware, the Japan Mobility Show 2023 is happening in Tokyo currently. Many prominent brands are participating in the show. Honda is among these brands, displaying a wide range of products with advanced technologies. A significant percentage of these products is focused on EVs, with SC e: Concept being a major prototype unveiled by Honda.

Exploring the Honda SC e: Electric Scooter Concept

The design of the Honda SC e: electric scooter concept clearly targets urban commutes. The design reflects a simple everyday-use machine with no radical design features. Its overall appearance aligns with the conventional scooter theme. Nevertheless, it has some unique features, including the full-width LED DRLs

This newly unveiled concept receives contrasting blue highlights, enhancing its visual appearance. The front lighting panel, handlebar, floorboard & rear tail section have blue elements. These blue elements highlight the scooter's electric nature, going well with the ivory-white colour used for the body. Besides these details, there isn’t anything extraordinary about Honda’s latest electric scooter concept.

The bike’s ergonomics are relaxed and comfortable. The long & wide single-piece seat comes with adequate foam thickness to ensure optimal comfort for both the rider & the passenger. With the battery packs placed under the seat, the flat floorboard provides ample space for carrying various items.

However, storage space will be limited due to the under-seat battery packs, possibly enough to keep just a helmet or other small items. Moreover, the prototype doesn't seem to have front storage currently. However, this could change in the production stage. Front storage is a basic yet common feature in most commuter-oriented scooters.

Speaking of technology, the Honda SC e: electric scooter concept is expected to come with Bluetooth-based connectivity features. There will also be a rectangular space for a digital instrument cluster, although it’s not installed in the prototype yet. The instrument console will be of moderate size and not as big as screens used in Ola S1 Pro, Ather 450X, etc.

Exploring the Performance of Honda SC e: Electric Scooter

Honda SC e: electric scooter concept will have two swappable batteries, known as Mobile Power Pack. While Honda has promised good speed & range, exact numbers are yet to be disclosed. Unlike typical commuter scooters with hub-mounted motors, this scooter has its motor at the rear wheel. The scooter will feature hardware, including telescopic forks at the front & a single shock absorber at the rear. Braking duties will be handled by a disc-drum combo.

Honda assured the scooter’s performance would align with the clean electric mobility standards, producing zero CO2 emissions. However, the brand hasn’t disclosed any details about the powertrain. The scooter has been designed for quiet & comfortable rides. This scooter will be a key part of Honda's plan to be carbon neutral by 2050.
