The KTM 790 Duke was introduced in 2019, but it was later discontinued when BS6 requirements were implemented.
Indian KTM fans have been anxiously awaiting the release of the brand's large motorcycles. When they introduced the 790 Duke in 2019, we got a taste of their first large bike. There were expectations that the 890 Duke or possibly the 890 Adventure would go on sale at some point in the future. And, even though the bike was only produced in small quantities and ceased to exist in India after the implementation of BS6 requirements. In fact, KTM took these bikes to the 2022 India Bike Week along with the 1290 Super Duke to test consumer enthusiasm (similar to what they did at the IBW 2019 with the KTM 790 Adventure). However, nothing has advanced past that point.
Stefan Pierer, CEO of KTM AG, was questioned about whether the company's large motorcycles would eventually return to India at the recent celebration of the KTM-Bajaj alliance's one-millionth rollout at the Chakan factory in Pune. Pierer only stated that developing a business model in India is difficult due to the country's punishingly high tax rates and the limited number of big bikes. The cost of imports is too high, and there aren't enough sales to support local production. So there will now be a long wait for all those KTM lovers who were hoping and praying that bikes like the 890 Duke or the 890 Adventure would be imported to India.
