Kawasaki has temporarily removed W800 from its Indian website. However, the company hasn’t released any official statement as to why it was done. Nevertheless, here’s everything we know so far.
The Indian 2-wheeler market has been witnessing a peculiar trend since the OBD2 compliance norms kick in. There has been a slight shift in various companies’ operations in order to meet the demands of the new compliance norms. Manufacturers are now focussing on equipping their bikes and scooters with OBD2 sensors. These new additional sensors will let users keep real-time track of their emissions. This might be the leading reason for Kawasaki to pull the plug on the W800 (temporarily, we hope).
In addition, many dealers have revealed that the bike is unavailable in their inventory too. Another reason for this step by Kawasaki could also be the low market demand for W800. So it won’t be a shocker if the company is planning to sell W175 in India as we advance. Back in December, Kawasaki also offered a huge discount of Rs 1.25 lakh on W800 to boost its sales.
If you are looking for a retro-styled bike belonging to a similar category, then you should definitely check out Triumph Bonneville T100 and T120. However, note that both the bikes’ price tag is quite higher than W800 (which earlier retailed for Rs 7.3 lakh). So, if you want to look for an affordable option, then Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 could be your ideal choice.
