Kawasaki W175 is India's most affordable motorcycle. But unlike the rest of Kawasaki's sports portfolio, the W175 is just a modest 177cc suburban bike with a retro styling design. Hence, if you plan to pay the ex-showroom price of Rs 1.47, you will probably want to know if the money you spend delivers the best product. Here is a brief overview of the actual performance of the Kawasaki W175.
A perception towards a Kawasaki bike is more of a fun ride, but Kawasaki W175 doesn't stand upon the fact. It's bouncy for city commuting, while its 177cc engine gives a feel of riding a sporty commuter equipped with a 125cc engine. The acceleration to 100 km/h feels long, and the bike feels too loaded to enjoy the ride while maintaining those speeds. So if you are planning a highway ride with this bike, keep that question out of the list. If your purpose is to ride city commuters with a retro style, this is a better choice in the city. This bike falls under a decent mid-range, so even if it doesn't fit to be a beast, it promises to be fuss-free.
Another technical specification where W175 makes the rider feel low is the brakes of W175. Expecting Kawasaki to add a rear disc brake and dual-channel ABS at this price range is certainly reasonable. However, Kawasaki claims that W175 is not a sport bike, so a single 270mm disc brake combined with a rear drum brake is enough for this purpose. The braking system combination doesn't feel justifiable for such a high price range.
Even in this regard, the W175 looks unconvincing when compared to other bikes. The other bikes in the market equipped with an approximately 170cc engine, such as the Bajaj Pulsar N160 or the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V, outperform the W175 by a wide margin. Therefore, with the W175, you don't get the satisfaction that "it's a good commuter."
The Kawasaki W175 is a fairly basic yet premium commuter bike that has a unique retro look, and the money stops there. You are expected to spend a decent amount on this bike, and therefore it cannot be recommended as a main bike for your garage but only as a second bike because of its small Kawasaki retro styling look.
