It looks like Triumph may be working on introducing quarter-litre offerings to expand its product lineup. The Scrambler 250 and Roadster 250 could potentially be part of this expansion.
If Triumph launches 250cc twins in the future, the pricing of these motorcycles will likely be lower than their 400cc counterparts. Additionally, Triumph might borrow styling and design elements from their current Speed and Scrambler models for the 250cc twins.
In the Indian market, the 250cc segment already includes motorcycles such as the KTM 250 Duke, Suzuki Gixxer 250, Dominar 250, Suzuki Gixxer SF 250, Pulsar 250 twins, and a few others. However, the retro style category within the 250cc class has limited options. This presents an opportunity for Triumph to enter this segment and potentially fill the gap with its 250cc offerings.
The Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X both power a 398cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cool engine producing 39.5bhp and 37.5Nm and is mated to a six-speed gearbox. Triumph has included LED lighting, dual-channel ABS, traction control, and a semi-digital instrument panel on both bikes. Both bikes are equipped with USD front forks, a monoshock, and disc brakes on both ends.
Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X are expected to be the most affordable and smallest motorcycles in Triumph's lineup. The development of 400cc twins was done in partnership with Bajaj. The Speed 400 received a positive response upon its launch, partly due to its introductory price of Rs. 2.23 lakh Ex-showroom, Delhi. It was slightly lower than the base model of the recently launched Harley-Davidson X440.
However, Triumph plans to increase the price of the Speed 400 to Rs. 2.33 lakh once the first 10,000 bikes are booked. This suggests that the introductory price was temporary, and Triumph intends to raise the price after a certain number of units will get sold.
