Honda to Launch a New 100cc Bike on 15th March

Honda Two Wheeler India is planning to launch a new bike in the commuter segment with a 100 cc engine.

Honda dominates the Indian scooter market as the top manufacturer. They maintain this top position with their Activa model being virtually unparalleled. Activa sales make up over 50% of Honda's total sales. When compared to the top 10 best-selling scooters in India, Activa sales are almost equal to the combined sales of the other nine competitors.

Honda's sales in India play a crucial role in the global two-wheeler market. India alone accounts for a significant number of units sold each month. However, Honda's dominance does not extend to the motorcycle market.

Hero MotoCorp has long been the undisputed leader with its budget-friendly Splendor model. The Splendor range enjoys immense popularity among rural customers. This is an area where Honda is currently lagging behind. But the company is planning to chart a stronger path forward.

Check out Honda’s Upcoming 100cc Bike

Honda is introducing a new 100cc bike to compete with the popular Splendor. Currently, Honda's smallest commuter motorcycle engine is a 110cc unit that is used in CD 110 Dream and Livo

Honda Shine and SP 125, on the other hand, have a 125cc engine. However, Hero, Honda's rival, has a 100cc platform (97.2cc) that offers greater fuel efficiency. Further, these factors are highly appreciated by the target audience. This engine is available in HF Deluxe and Splendor Plus, which is the highest-selling motorcycle in the country. Honda has released the first official glimpse of their upcoming 100cc motorcycle.

In the official unveiling of the new Honda 100cc motorcycle, actor Jimmy Sheirgill appeared in a rural fair setup. It indicates that Honda is aiming to target the rural segment with this bike.

The rural market generally prefers smaller motorcycles in the 100cc segment as they are more budget-friendly and versatile. With a well-designed suspension and frame, this new platform could be advantageous for Honda. Further helping it to narrow the gap with its rival Hero.

Check out the specifications

At present, Honda's Shine and SP 125 motorcycles in the 125cc segment are equipped with a 124cc engine. These powerful engines generate approximately 10.6 bhp of power and 11 Nm of torque.

The Shine model is fitted with a 4-speed gearbox, while the SP125 has a 5-speed unit. These motorcycles provide a fuel economy of around 60 km/l in real-world conditions

In contrast, its competitor, the Splendor Plus and HF Deluxe have a 97.2cc engine. This engine is capable of producing approximately 8 bhp of power and 8.05 Nm of torque. Further, this engine is only available with a 4-speed gearbox. And it offers even better fuel efficiency of around 65+ km/l

Honda's upcoming 100cc bike is expected to have power and torque figures in a similar range. The patent for this new motorcycle has been leaked. Honda's new 100cc bike, which is expected to have a competitive price point, may have a significant impact on the sales of Splendor.

In addition to competing with Splendor Plus and HF Deluxe, it will also be in competition with Bajaj Platina. The release of this upcoming 100cc bike will expand Honda's reach in India, and it is expected to receive a positive response. Honda plans to launch Activa Electric in January 2024.
