Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India is ready to expand its portfolio. The company is ready to manufacture the Activa EV scooter, which is expected to be started by December 2024. Honda is adding two new production lines at its factories in Gujarat and Karnataka due to the increasing demand for regular electric vehicles.
The company slowed down in manufacturing due to new emission rules (BS6) and COVID-19. Now, they have decided to manufacture more vehicles. With these new production lines, Honda wants to make enough vehicles to meet the growing demand and sell more.
The Gujarat factory is getting a third production line, which should add about 660,000 more bikes. Honda is also planning to start making electric vehicles there in the second half of the fiscal year 2024-2025. This move will increase its total production capacity by around 900,000 bikes per year.
Honda wants to do well in the electric bike market with the Activa EV, but it's also upgrading its other bikes to stay competitive. New companies are making electric bikes, too, so Honda knows it needs to keep innovating to keep up.
Honda Motorcycle is feeling positive about its future growth. They're aiming for a significant increase in sales of over 15% in the FY 2024-25. They are also hoping to beat their previous highest sales of 5.9 million units in FY19.
Honda plans to increase motorcycle production by 23%, reaching 2.65 million units. Moreover, the company is also expecting to make 11% more scooters next year and aims to sell over 3 million units.
This move into electric vehicles comes at a time when the Indian two-wheeler market is evolving. Last fiscal year, total sales went up by 13.3%, reaching 17.97 million units. Experts say this growth is because of a strong economy and suitable rainfall patterns, especially in rural areas. Honda is banking on these trends to drive their growth in the coming years.
