Honda Gears Up for EV Future in India - Roadmap to be Announced on March 29

On March 29, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India will reveal its plans for future electric vehicles (EVs). Honda is the second-largest two-wheeler maker in India by volume. The subsidiary of the Japanese auto giant, currently has no electric models in its portfolio.

In the first 11 months of FY23, the company sold 3,827,985 units in India, 21.16% more than the 3,159,301 units it sold in FY22.

Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki are some of the major Japanese players in the Indian two-wheeler market, but they have not launched any electric models yet. However, they are all developing EVs for the Indian market.

On the other hand, Indian OEMs like Hero, TVS and Bajaj have already entered the EV market with at least one model each. Hero has the Vida V1, TVS has the iQube, and Bajaj has the Chetak.

The company has been developing its electric two-wheeler model for a while now. However, as EV sales are booming, especially in the two-wheeler segment, this is the right time for the company to reveal its EV plans.

With the launch of the Shine 100 at a starting ex-showroom price of Rs 64,900, the company has made its entry into the profitable 100 cc segment. The new Honda Shine 100 competes with models such as the Hero Splendor plus, Hero HF Deluxe and Bajaj Platina 100.

The Shine 100, CD 110 Dream, Livo, Shine 125, SP125, Unicorn, X-Blade, Hornet 2.0 and CB 200X are the mass-segment motorcycles offered by Honda. The company also has scooters such as the Dio, Activa, Activa 125 and Grazia 125 in its portfolio.

Among the premium motorcycles offered by the company are the CB300F, CB300R, H’ness CB350, CB350RS, CB500X, CBR650R, CB650R, CBR1000RR-R Fireblade, CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP, Africa Twin Adventure Sports and Gold Wing Tour.
