Kawasaki is about to launch the KLX230, a road-legal off-roading bike in India. It will compete against the popular Hero XPulse 200 4V Pro. If you were thinking about buying the XPulse, you might want to wait and consider the KLX230, which is expected to launch in December 2024. In this article, we will compare both bikes to help you make the right decision.
Kawasaki KLX 230 is designed like a serious off-roader. It has a slim, long seat and a raised front fender, which is pretty typical of a dirt bike look. Its engine uses a 233cc air-cooled engine that could deliver up to 18.1PS with 18.3Nm of torque. As compared to the XPulse 200 4V Pro, it has a bit less power but more torque.
Its slim frame and long travel suspension make the KLX230 an excellent choice for off-road riding. Additionally, the KLX230 has a high ground clearance of 265mm and a seat height of 880mm. This gives good control over rough terrain.
Hero XPulse 200 4V Pro is the rally-spec version of the standard XPulse 200 4V. It is powered by a 199.6cc engine producing 18.9 PS and 17.35 Nm torque. This makes it slightly more powerful but with less torque compared to the KLX230.
The XPulse 200 4V Pro also has a long-travel suspension, with 250mm front wheel travel and 220mm at the rear. It has a higher seat height of 891mm and a ground clearance of 270mm.
Hero XPulse 200 4V Pro and the Kawasaki KLX230 vary in terms of selection needs. If you need a lightweight, high-performance off-roader, wait for the KLX230. It's not going to be easy to ride over some difficult trails due to its low kerb weight and good power-to-weight ratio.
The Hero XPulse 200 4V Pro has its pluses, too. For one, the vehicle has an extensive service network and relatively affordable spares—the key to making maintenance relatively easy. Lastly, it costs Rs 1.53 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). In comparison with the KLX230, which will possibly cost around Rs 2 lakh more (ex-showroom), this makes more sense.
The Hero XPulse 200 4V Pro is a reliable off-roader if budget and easy maintenance are of prime importance to you. If you are willing to spend that extra dollar or two, you must look out for the Kawasaki KLX230. In that case, it will prove lighter and much more powerful of an experience serious off-roading can be. Both bikes have great qualities, but what you value the most in your ride has to determine your choice.
