Harley Davidson X440 Roadster Opened for Bookings in India

Harley Davidson managed to salvage its operations by partnering with Hero MotoCorp after its exit in 2020. The Harley-Davidson X440 roadster is the first product to be launched as part of this collaboration. However, the design and development of the motorcycle are likely done by Harley-Davidson. Hero MotoCorp will be responsible for its production, distribution, sales, and after-sales services.

Interested customers can now book the Harley Davidson X440 roadster at dealerships by paying an advance of Rs 25,000. Harley-Davidson aims to create its customer base in India with this motorcycle rather than directly competing with brands like Royal Enfield.

Design & Ergonomics of Harley-Davidson X440

The Harley-Davidson X440 roadster features retro styling elements that give it a classic appeal. The motorcycle has a circular headlamp with LED lighting and a LED DRL positioned at the centre. The turn indicators have the Harley logo at their centre. The instrument pod is expected to be circular and equipped with a digital screen.

The X440 showcases a conical fuel tank with Harley and X440 badging. The body panelling is minimal, and there are side-mounted grab rails. Notable design highlights include a copper-coloured exhaust pipe and blacked-out parts for a sense of power and dominance. The blacked-out components include the headlamp cowl, engine guard, engine assembly, rear shock absorbers, and exhaust muffler. The alloy wheels feature a dual-tone finish of black and brushed metal.

In terms of ergonomics, the Harley X440 offers a pleasant riding position. The bike features a flat handlebar and footpegs located in the centre. The handlebar isis relatively low-set, which implies sporty riding behaviour. The seat is comfortable, particularly in the rider's region, of its scooped design. The pillion part is small but could be sufficient for city purposes.

While engine specifications are yet to be revealed, the Harley-Davidson X440 is projected to offer greater power and torque than the Royal Enfield 350cc motorcycle. The single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine on the Harley X440 could produce 40 Nm of peak torque should be useful on city streets. Unlike other Harley-Davidson motorcycles, the X440 features a chain drive. It is the second contemporary Harley bike to include a chain drive, after Pan Am. The tubular frame of the Harley X440 is designed with a single downtube. It has front USD forks and rear pre-load adjustable dual shock absorbers.

The Harley-Davidson X440 roadster's 18-inch wheel at the front and 17-inch at the rear look majestic. The wheels feature MRF tyres with a retro tread pattern, resembling the treads found on Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp tyres.
