Cyber Attack on Suzuki Plant in India Shutted Down for a Week

Suzuki Motorcycle was forced to halt its production due to a cyber attack at its plant in Gurugram, Haryana. The company is reported to have stopped production since May 10 and is estimated to have suffered a production loss of around 20,000 units during this period.

Impact of Incident on Production

The company has informed the concerned government department about the incident and is doing everything to investigate the cyber attack. For Suzuki Motorcycles, this plant is a major source of export of two-wheelers. Last month, the company sold 61,660 units in the country. Its market share is over 5%. However, this month the company's products may have a big impact as it has a larger market in India.

Suzuki Motorcycle India spokesperson confirmed the incident and reported it to the concerned government department. The matter is under investigation, but no details about the incident are provided for security reasons. While the spokesperson did not specify when production would resume, sources suggest the plant should continue operations in the coming days.

Market Situation For Suzuki in India

India is the largest market for Suzuki Motorcycles outside of Japan. India is accounting for 50% of the global output of Suzuki Motor Corporation in FY23. India is also one of the fastest-growing markets for the company in the previous financial year. India is a key export hub for Suzuki Motor Japan, with 20% of the Indian output catering to global markets.

Suzuki Motorcycle holds a market share of nearly 5% in the competitive Indian two-wheeler market. However, its scooters, particularly the Burgman Street and Access models, enjoy a significant market share of 14% in the scooter segment. In FY23, over 90% of Suzuki Motorcycle's total output consisted of scooters, with the Burgman Street and Access models being prominent contributors. Suzuki Motor aims for a 4.4% growth in global production in FY24, with India expected to continue driving global sales.
