Ather Energy to Release A New Sibling of Ather 450S?

In a bid to expand its range of affordable electric scooters, Ather Energy made significant waves in August by launching the 450S model, which garnered an overwhelmingly positive response from its loyal customer base.

Exciting news has emerged recently, with homologation documents hinting at the imminent arrival of a new addition to the Ather 450S family.

The driving force behind this portfolio expansion was Ather's commitment to providing more affordable scooter choices. A priority spurred by substantial reductions in FAME-II subsidies earlier this year.

To counter this problem, Ather Energy made a strategic shift by offering its flagship 450X with two battery options: a 3.7 kWh pack and a 2.9 kWh pack. To further democratise electric mobility, they also introduced the sleek and simplified 450S, equipped with a 2.9 kWh battery.

Now, Ather Energy is poised to give customers even more options. Leaked homologation documents reveal the new entrant in the lineup, aptly named the “Ather 450S HR,” with “HR” presumably denoting “High Range.” This exciting electric scooter will get the 3.7 kWh battery pack from its 450X sibling, complemented by the smaller motor from the 450S, delivering 5.4 kW of peak power and 22 Nm of peak torque. 
 

With a top speed matching its larger counterpart at 90 kmph but featuring slightly reduced acceleration power, the Ather 450S HR will notably exclude the Hyper Mode found in the 450X. Additionally, cost-cutting measures include swapping the TFT display for a segmented LCD unit. 
 

Ather confidently claims that the 2.9 kWh battery pack offers a true range of 90 km for both the 450S and 450X models. Given this, it wouldn't be a stretch to expect the 450S HR to boast a similar 110 km true range. However, intriguingly, the homologation documents suggest a certified range of 156 km, slightly surpassing the 450X's 150 km range. 
 

Now, the burning question on everyone's mind: what will the price tag look like? Currently, the 450S scooter is priced at Rs 1.3 lakhs, with an additional Rs 14,000 for the Pro Pack, offering various enhancements, including multiple riding modes. This could potentially bring the total to around Rs 1.43 lakhs (ex-showroom).

While Ather Energy has yet to unveil the price for the latest 450X with the 3.7 kWh pack, the Gen3 450X commands a price of Rs 1.45 lakhs. If you opt for the Pro variant at an extra cost of Rs 20,000, the total rises to Rs 1.65 lakhs. With these considerations in mind, the Ather 450S HR is likely to find its sweet spot in the range of Rs 1.5 - 1.6 lakhs (ex-showroom, with the Pro Pack).
