Bajaj has been working on the new and biggest addition to its Pulsar series for quite a while now. After months of waiting, The brand has finally released its first official teaser of its upcoming Bajaj Pulsar 400. This upcoming Pulsar 400 is probably going to share the same perimeter chassis as the Pulsar NS200. While the engine will be the same as the Dominar 400. Bajaj Auto is going to position its Pulsar 400 below the Dominar, making it the brand’s most affordable 40 hp Bajaj Bikes in the 400 cc segment. Bajaj Pulsar 400 First TeaserThe upcoming Bajaj Pulsar 400 is shceduled for launch on 3rd May 2024. The brand has been tight slipped about anything related to the upcoming model, however, this little sneak peak has led us into the new design of the bike. Now, looking closely to the teaser, it seems like compared to the NS250, Pulsar 400 is going to have a redesigned rear tyre hugger, hinting on a fatter rear tyre. Bajaj Pulsar 400 EngineBajaj Auto definitely has a comprehensive range of specs. With the engine borrowed from the current Dominar 400, 373 cc single-cylinder engine, which is already present in RC 390 and KTM 390 Adventure.But, even though the Bajaj Pulsar 400 engine is the same as the Dominar and the KTM motorcycles, the Dominar produces 40 PS and 35 Nm. Meanwhile, the KTM bike engine produces a max power output of 43.5 PS and 37 NM torque. This engine is further tuned to an efficient 6-speed gearbox system. Bajaj Pulsar 400 Top SpecsBajaj Pulsar 400 is going to be equipped with the slip-and-assist clutch as standard, while the quick-shifter could be either optional or only available for the top-spec variant. Looking at the other hardware specs, the upcoming Pulsar 400 could share the same chassis as the Pulsar NS200. The sturdy perimeter frame has already been proven that it can easily support higher-capacity engines. However, it is likely that it will get some additional upgrades to make it easily suitable for the biggest Pulsar bike yet. Upcoming Pulsar 400 FeaturesAs for the features, Bajaj Pulsar 400 will be coming with USP front forks and a monoshok rear suspension system for the smoothest riding experience for the riders. Thanks to this suspension, riders will easily be able to ride through uneven terrains easily without any issues. Coming down to the braking system, this bike is going to feature disc brakes, along with a dual-channel ABS as a standard feature. The upcoming Bajaj Pulsar 400 will also come with a completely digital instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity. This will be extra beneficial for users to stay connected on the go. Furthermore, it will also come with a turn-by-turn navigation system, all-LED lighting and an underbelly exhaust system. Bajaj Pulsar 400 Price RangeThere are rumours going around that the upcoming Pulsar 400 could have a limited-edition launch offer for its customers. The pricing could be anywhere around Rs 2 lakh, at least for the initial launch. Bajaj Auto would want to create the utmost hype for its biggest Pulsar yet. And this competitive pricing will definitely going to play a major role in developing the much-needed hype. But if not Rs 2 lakhs, the most realistic price range would be around Rs 2.10 lakhs, but probably not more than that. This seems actually most appropriate, given that the Dominar 400 price in India starts at Rs 2.31 lakhs.Thoughts on this Huge LaunchWith the upcoming Bajaj Pulsar 400 launch, the entire Pulsar bikes by Bajaj will come to its full potential. But the moment Bajaj started planning to launch this 400cc bike, it actually had the option to use the Pulsar name. However, the Pulsar brand was naturally associated with commuter/lower-capacity bikes. This is why the decision was made to create an entirely different brand - Dominar. The sales of two wheelers in FY 2024 increased by 11.48% compared to the previous year. A total of 1,24,18,128 units were sold, up from 1,11,38,889 units in FY23. This growth amounted to an additional 12,79,239 units sold during the year.  In FY 2024, Splendor and Activa are the top selling two wheelers from the new models and favourable market conditions. Their popularity surged due to updated designs, improved features, and increased purchases in rural areas.Additionally, the Pulsar, Honda Shine and HF Deluxe are following the lead. Hero Splendor shines again with consistent monthly sales dominance. Its sales increased by 1.15% YoY, totalling 32,93,324 units. Splendor's enduring popularity and market strength give it a significant 26.51% share among the top 10 best-selling models. Honda Activa  Activa secured the second spot among the top-selling two-wheelers in 2024 by selling 22,54,537 units. This scooter marked a growth of 4.88% over FY23. Moreover, Activa's success hints at a potential electric variant, holding an 18.16% share in the top 10 list. This aligns with the industry trend of enhancing sales through innovation. Honda Shine Honda Shine arose as a notable motorcycle in the commuter section, seeing a significant 22.66% YoY sales increment. Its sales arrived at 14,82,957 units, up from 12,09,025 units in FY23. This addresses a volume growth of 2,73,932 units. This growth highlights Shine's rising popularity among customers. Bajaj Pulsar  Pulsar got the fifth spot in the top-selling bike list for FY24. Around 14,10,974 units were sold, a critical 37.11% increment compared with FY23. In addition, the organisation is reliably making efforts to grow and refresh the Pulsar range.  Hero HF Deluxe  HF Deluxe experienced a slight decline in YoY sales, dropping by 1.70% in FY24. Sales decreased to 10,34,178 units from 10,52,043 units sold in FY23. Despite this marginal decrease, HF Deluxe remains a significant player in the two-wheeler market. It maintains consumer interest with its reliable performance. TVS Jupiter  Jupiter scooter experienced a notable 15.81% increase in sales during FY24. Sales rose to 8,44,863 units from 7,29,546 units in FY23, representing a volume growth of 1,15,317 units. Jupiter continues to attract consumers with its appealing features and performance. It has a 6.80% share on the list of the top 10 most selling two wheelers in 2024. Suzuki Access  Access scooters witnessed a significant 27.21% year-on-year sales increase in FY24, reaching 6,34,563 units. The newly detailed Suzuki Access 125 facelift introduces enhanced features and updated technology, reflecting the brand's commitment to innovation and meeting consumer preferences for improved performance and functionality. Bajaj Platina  The sales of Bajaj Platina dipped to 5,02,486 units in FY24 compared to 5,34,017 units last year. It has a market share of 4.05%, which took it to 8th position in this list. Moreover, the affordable price and superior mileage of Bajaj Platina 100 makes it easy for budget-conscious buyers to purchase. TVS XL  TVS XL saw a 9.11% YoY expansion in sales, arriving at 4,81,803 units. This development reflects customer interest in the model, which is known for its quality and performance. Additionally, the reliable performance of the TVS XL 100 features its appeal among purchasers.  TVS Raider  At last, the TVS Raider achieved remarkable YoY growth in FY24. It has seen an impressive 99.86% to 4,78,443 units from 2,39,388 units sold in FY23. Bajaj Auto plans to invest about INR 800 crore in the fiscal year 2024-25. This follows its commitment to invest the same amount in the previous FY 2023-24. In the January-March quarter of 2024, Bajaj Auto saw its combined net profit increase by 18% to INR 2,011 crore compared to the same period last year when it was INR 1,705 crore. The company has stated that it will use a significant portion of the INR 800 crore investment to enhance the capacities of three-wheelers and Chetak electric scooters. Additionally, it plans to introduce new models like the Pulsar, a Chetak-branded vehicle, and a motorcycle running on CNG in the current quarter. However, the company needs help in its exports. What Are The Thoughts Of Dinesh Thapar On 800 Cr. Investment? The Chief Financial Officer of Bajaj Auto, Dinesh Thapar, said, "We will be spending between INR 700-800 crore, primarily to complete the capex on our three wheeler plant and possibly some expansion that we need to do on Chetak as well," "Some of the capex will go into dyes and moulds, given that the innovation and density across the business has stepped up." Furthermore, regarding the CNG motorcycle business, Thapar said, "It is not such a large number; it sits within our capex. And the bulk of our capex that we spend is largely on capabilities and capacities for our electric business."ETAuto previously reported on Bajaj Auto's efforts to increase production capacity and widen its network. It's expected to be priced higher than petrol models.Since the CNG infrastructure in India is growing, but mainly in certain states, Bajaj Auto plans to launch the bike gradually. Initially, it will be available in cities with a dense CNG network.The company has expertise in CNG vehicles, with about three-quarters of its passenger three-wheelers being CNG-powered. For the new motorcycle launch, it has identified districts across India with good CNG availability. As of the end of 2023, the Northern and Western regions, especially Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and the NCR, have better CNG station networks.Triumph BusinessBajaj Auto currently produces around 6,500 Triumph motorcycles every month. It aims to increase this to 10,000 units by September this year. Bajaj partnered globally with the British motorcycle brand Triumph in 2017. Last July, they launched co-developed Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X motorcycles in India. These models are made at Bajaj Auto's new manufacturing facility in Chakan. Initially, it could produce 5,000 units per month, later increased to 8,000 units. Moreover, Bajaj started exporting Triumph motorcycles, selling 7,000 units to markets like the UK, US, Japan, Australia, and Poland. ExportsBajaj's export revenues increased by double digits year-over-year (YoY) during the January-March 2024 period. This was due to a better mix of products and improved prices. Although the volume remained mostly unchanged compared to the previous quarter, it was about 20% higher compared to the same period last year. This YoY growth was boosted by a lower base comparison from the previous year.The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) mentioned that a significant portion of the export revenues comes from shipping premium motorcycles to Latin America.
