Yamaha, a Japanese manufacturer of two-wheeled vehicles, has submitted an application for the R2 trademark. The new brand name appears to be applied to a future motorcycle. However, the application has been submitted in international markets like Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and the Philippines instead of India.
As we already know, companies have naming conventions like R15, R3, R6, R7, and R1. Therefore, we can presume that the new 200cc sports bike may go by the nametag R2. Yamaha does not currently sell 200cc motorbikes in India that adhere to the strict BS6 emission regulations. These are all, however, simply educated estimates as the company has not yet provided official confirmation.
There is no question that car firms frequently take aggressive action to protect certain names that might be used in the future. Therefore, registering the name indicates that the product will be made available in the future. The R2 nametag would most likely be applied to a 200cc motorbike that was both inexpensive and packed with features, competing with models like the Bajaj Pulsar RS200 and the KTM RC 200.
One of the most recent interviews with Yamaha executives also included a statement about the company’s plans to introduce new 150cc to 250cc bikes to the Indian two-wheeler market. So we cannot rule out the prospect of a brand-new 200cc Yamaha sports bike for Indian motorcycle enthusiasts in this way.
