Why Ather Grids Limiting Electric Scooter Charging to 80%?

Ather Energy Unveils Ather Grid Upgrade with Optimal Charge Cut-Off at 80 Percent for Users

Ather Energy has announced an upcoming upgrade for their Ather Grids that will result in an 80 percent charging cut-off. This upgrade is designed to provide optimal charging for users, reduce wait times for others, and ensure fair usage for everyone. However, a recent tweet from the company's CEO has drawn attention, as it emphasised the safety concerns associated with charging beyond the cut-off point. The tweet stated that disconnecting the Solenoid is necessary to prevent potential risks such as arcing and other unsafe outcomes.

Comprehending the Process of Converting Electrical Energy to Mechanical Energy with Solenoids

Electric scooter owners are likely familiar with solenoids and their crucial role in the charging process. These electromechanical devices are responsible for regulating the flow of electricity to the battery by converting electrical Energy into Mechanical Energy.

The process involves generating a magnetic field when an electric current passes through them. However, it is crucial to avoid disconnecting the Solenoid while the battery is charging. Doing so can pose safety risks such as arcing. To prevent damage or harm resulting from a sudden interruption in the continuous flow of electrical Energy, it is essential to allow the Solenoid to complete its cycle before disconnecting it.

Hazards of Disrupting Electrical Energy Flow to an Electric Scooter Battery

During the charging process, a solenoid draws electrical Energy and generates a magnetic field. Disconnecting the Solenoid while it is actively charging can be dangerous, as it may result in a sudden interruption of electrical energy flow and create an electric arc.

Solenoids are crucial safety components in the charging process for electric scooters. They regulate the flow of electricity to the battery and prevent electric arcs, which can pose serious safety risks and even be life-threatening.

Avoiding Electric Arcs During Charging of Electric Scooters

An electric arc is a phenomenon where an electric current flows through a gap in a circuit, producing a flash of light, heat, and potentially an explosion, leading to severe burns, equipment damage, and even death.

To prevent electric arcs, it is essential to avoid interruption in the process of completing the cycle for the Solenoid. This makes sure that the magnetic field has dissipated, thus eliminating the possibility of electric arcs.

The Ather electric scooter prioritises safety in its design and incorporates advanced lithium-ion cells in its battery pack. These cells are a popular choice for electric vehicles due to their high energy density.
