Auto Expo 2023: Tork Motors set to unveil its new e-bike

Tork Motors is set to showcase its new electric motorcycle in upcoming auto expo 2023, the biggest extravaganza in the country. It can be good news for the electric bike lovers that the company will be showcasing its upgraded Krastos R model too along with the lower model Kratos. Both the electric motorcycles come with Axial flux motors.

Tork Motors is ready to introduce a new electric motorcycle and an updated Kratos R electric motorcycle at the upcoming 2023 Auto Expo event, which will be held from the 13th to the 18th of January. Tork Motors launched the Kratos and Kratos R electric motorcycles to the Indian market for 1.08 lakh and Rs 1.23 lakh, respectively, in 2022. Furthermore, the Tork Kratos comes with a 7.5 kW electric motor that develops 5.36 bhp of power along with a torque of 28 Nm. Next to it, the Tork Kratos R is equipped with a more powerful 9kW motor which generates the power of 6 bhp along with a torque of 38 Nm. Both electric bikes use a 4kWh lithium-ion battery that delivers a claimed range of 180 km on a single charge.

The company says electric bikes are among the first vehicles to feature an Axial Flux motor. Interested customers can book Kratos and Kratos-R electric motorcycles through the official website.

What is an Axial Flux Motor?

A new type of motor is gaining momentum in the electric vehicle sector, the axial flux motor. For years, they have been used in stationary applications such as elevators and agricultural machinery. Still, over the past decade, several developers have worked to improve the technology to make it suitable for applications such as electric motorcycles, airport containers, delivery trucks, electric vehicles and even aeroplanes.

Conventional radial flux motors that use permanent magnets or induction motors in an electric field are undergoing extensive development to optimise their weight and cost. However, it's not that far away to switch to a different type of machine, such as axial flux, which might be a good alternative.

Axial flux, which is a permanent magnet machine, generally provides more torque for a given motor displacement than a radial motor.

The axial flux motor is five times shorter and three to four times lighter than a conventional motor which makes it a good choice for electric manufacturers.
