BMW Motorrad has officially revealed its new-gen version of its flagship GS adventure touring range - the R 1300 GS. The model intends to serve as a successor to the R 1250 GS for the 2024 model year. The new G 1300 GS is expected to arrive in India next year. The model will come with a fresh new design & new engine. The company also reduced the weight of the new model.
The new BMW G 1300 GS gets a new X-shaped LED headlight to replace the asymmetrical headlight featured on the older models. The overall design is more modern and compact than before. BMW Motorrad claims to have reduced about 12 kgs of weight from the motorcycle compared to the previous one.
The motorcycle is powered by a new 1,300 cc boxer twin engine, producing 145 bhp at 7,750 rpm & 149 Nm of peak torque at 6,500 rpm. This makes it the most potent BMW boxer engine ever mass-produced. Compared to the older model, the power is supposed to be up by 11 hp, with torque going up by 6 NM. The 6-speed gearbox under the engine makes the overall packaging more compact.
The adventure tourer uses a new steel sheet metal shell main frame, providing greater stiffness than the previous model. The former tubular steel structure for the rear frame has been replaced with a die-cast aluminium one. The motorcycle receives a new electronic Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA). The DSA combines dynamic adjustment of the front & rear damping with an equivalent modification of the spring rate (or spring stiffness). However, this depends on the chosen riding mode, riding conditions & movements. The automatic adjustment of the spring rest assures load compensation.
Two additional optional elements are available for suspending the new R 1300 GS: the new adaptive vehicle height control & the sports suspension. both are available alone in conjunction with DSA as optional equipment ex-works. Rain, Road, Eco, & Enduro are the 4 riding modes that come standard with the bike. Other features include Front Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Change Warning (SWW), & Riding Assistant with Active Cruise Control (ACC).
The BMW R 1300 GS also has a multifunctional instrument cluster with a 6.5-inch full-colour TFT screen. The model also comes with heated grips for the rider & passenger with a compartment for charging smartphones with an integrated USB port. In addition, an additional 12 V on-board power socket, keyless ignition, and more are a few of the key features.
