New Adventure Bike from Honda: 300 cc ADV Based on CB300F

The CB300F street naked motorcycle could be the basis for a new Honda ADV that may challenge the Himalayan soon.

The Honda CB300F has caused a lot of excitement and controversy since it was introduced in India. However, the sales numbers show that it may not have been a wise decision by Honda to launch this bike. Some dealers even offered a Rs. 50,000 discount to get rid of the inventory. The Honda CB300F is less powerful and sporty than its sibling, the Honda CB300R.

According to new reports, Honda may have plans to use this platform for more purposes. One of them could be creating an ADV version of it, which is a common strategy for Honda. We have seen examples of this with the CB200X, based on the Hornet 2.0, but it did not achieve much success either. So it remains to be seen how Honda will implement this, which may be launched by the end of 2023.

Honda plans to launch CB300F-derived ADV bike

As more and more riders are drawn to the adventure bike segment, bike makers are competing to offer their best-rugged models. However, some bikes only look like adventure bikes, without the features that make them suitable for off-road riding.

For example, Honda’s CB200X lacks long travel suspensions, wire-spoke wheels and a bigger front wheel typical of an ADV.

Honda might also turn its new CB300F naked street bike into an adventure bike. However, based on Honda’s previous ADVs, we expect this to be only a cosmetic change, not a functional one. Therefore, we hope Honda uses the CB300R as the base model for this bike instead of the CB300F.

The reason is that the CB300R has a 286 cc engine. This powerful engine generates 30.7 bhp of power at 9000 rpm followed by torque of 27.5 Nm at 7500 rpm. On the other hand, the CB300F has a 293.52cc engine that delivers 24.13 bhp at 7500 rpm and 25.6 Nm at 5500 rpm.

Honda could make its new ADV more competitive with the CB300R platform. The bike performs similarly to other bikes like KTM 390 Adventure and BMW G 310 GS

However, the CB300F’s platform would only match up with Suzuki V-Strom SX and KTM 250 Adventure, which is not that popular. The CB300R’s platform is also more appealing and lighter in weight.

Based on Honda’s past moves, we think this new Honda ADV using the CB300F platform will have a stylish fairing and a different seat position. This will make the rider sit more upright than on a street bike. In addition, it will borrow design cues from its bigger brother Honda CB500X and probably be called CB300X.

It will use the same engine and have parts like USD front forks, rear mono-shock, single disc brakes at both ends. Further, the same headlight unit in a different cowl integrated into a small fairing. However, Honda might surprise us and give it longer travel suspension, a bigger front wheel and even wire-spoke rims.

We also hope Honda will adjust the CB300X to fit the personality of an ADV, not a street bike derived. With CB200X, Honda gave a good-looking and premium product without off-road-capable equipment, costing around Rs. 12,000 more. With the bigger CB300X, we estimate it will be priced at Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 25,000, higher than CB300F.
