The new KTM 990 RC R sportbike has been seen testing in Europe. Recent spy photos show unique details of the motorcycle.
The prototype of the 990 RC R features a layered fairing with integrated winglets to improve aerodynamics and increase downforce at high speeds. It is fitted with a composite aluminium subframe. Currently, the prototype has been observed testing equipment in its tail section to gather data for further analysis.
However, taking inspiration from the race-spec RC 8C, the KTM 990 RC R will be powered by a 947cc, LC8c parallel-twin engine, delivering up to 128bhp and 103Nm of torque. This motor will be coupled with a gearbox with six speeds, while the test model has a stainless steel exhaust canister.
The motorcycle will feature a steel trellis frame, supported by a fully adjustable WP Apex Open cartridge suspension and an adjustable monoshock. Adjustable footrests allow riders to adjust the riding position as per their choice. Unlike the KTM 990 Duke, which uses J.Juan callipers, the KTM 990 RC R will be equipped with Brembo’s premium Hypure callipers, which are known for their superior performance compared to Stylema callipers.
KTM will allow riders to convert the base 990 RC R into a track edition. Expected to arrive in Europe next year, the motorcycle is expected to hit the market soon after. Set to compete with the Ducati Panigale V2 and Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R, the KTM 990 RC R aims to carve out its own niche in the high-performance sportbike segment.
