Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India is recalling its premium motorcycles, the Honda Goldwing and the CBR1000RR, in India. This recall is similar to the one Honda announced internationally a month ago. The company has found an issue with the fuel pump in these bikes. They say that the fuel pump part might not have been made correctly, which could cause it to fail.
This problem could cause the engine to stop working while riding or make it hard to start. The affected Goldwing bikes were made between December 2017 and December 2023. Moreover, the CBR1000RR’s affected bikes were made between September 2017 and April 2020.
Honda will fix this issue for free at their BigWing Topline dealerships across India. If you have one of these Honda motorcycles, you can check if it's affected by entering its VIN on Honda BigWing India's website. This will tell you if it needs to be fixed.
Honda said, “As per defect information, The fuel pump impellers may have been improperly moulded, which can cause them to deform and result in fuel pump failure. If the fuel pump module becomes inoperative, the engine may not start or can stall without indication while riding.”
“The inspection and replacement will be done free of cost irrespective of the warranty status of the vehicle. As soon as the parts are available, we will notify you about parts replacement.”
Honda Goldwing is equipped with an 1833cc liquid-cooled 4-stroke engine with 24 valves. Its engine generates a maximum power of 93kW @ 5500rpm and a torque of 170Nm @ 4500rpm. This Honda motorcycle is a tourer bike used for long trips due to its comfortable seating. Moreover, the bore and stroke measure 73mm x 73mm, with a compression ratio of 10.5:1.
The CBR1000RR bike has a 1000cc liquid-cooled inline four-cylinder four-stroke engine. Its induction system employs Programmed Dual Stage Fuel Injection with 48mm throttle bodies and Denso 12-hole injectors.
