Ducati has initiated a recall for its laidback cruiser motorcycle, the XDiavel, in the USA. The recall impacts approximately 3,000 units of the XDiavel S and Standard models produced between 2016 and 2023.
This recall is happening due to the incorrect fitting of the pillion backrest, offered as an accessory for the XDiavel. Improper installation may lead to a broken backrest, posing a risk of the pillion falling off the motorcycle. Notably, the fitting is performed at the dealership level, and safety measures involve dealers inspecting and ensuring the correct tightening torque of the backrest.
Additionally, Ducati dealers are instructed to affix a warning sticker on the backrest, providing guidelines for proper usage. These instructions emphasize that the pillion should use the backrest in conjunction with holding onto the grab strap or the rider, avoiding sole reliance on the backrest for support to prevent the risk of breakage.
While Ducati India has not issued a recall for the XDiavel in India concerning this issue, owners are advised to visit their nearest dealership for an inspection, especially if the motorcycle is equipped with a backrest. Safety remains a top priority, and addressing this concern promptly ensures the rider and pillion's safety.
