The 890 SMT is one of the upcoming bikes that KTM has been developing for the future. The bike has been spotted testing on several occasions, but now new images have leaked online and revealed how the bike would look when it hits the market.
The new KTM bike could borrow some design cues from its adventure siblings. The new images show sleek side fairings, a huge fuel tank, and a comfortable seat. However, the clay model here has a front fender different from the test bike we saw earlier. The chunky exhaust with its metal finish will make it to the final version.
KTM could use the same 899cc twin-cylinder engine in the SMT that powers the Duke. It would be paired with a six-speed transmission and could have a quick-shifter. And the engine would likely have a slip-and-assist clutch. KTM would stick to its trademark trellis frame design with a separate rear sub-frame. The features list remains unknown. It is anticipated that the 890 SMT could borrow some technology features from the new 890 Duke. These features may include a TFT screen, traction control, rider modes, and ABS levels.
The bike will have WP front upside-down forks and an adjustable rear shock. Further, the braking system will have dual front and a single rear disc which will be supported with a dual-channel ABS system. The latter seems fitted on 17-inch wheels with tyres suited for the road. The smaller wheel size offers better movement, and the overall handling is much smoother.
The production model will look very similar to the clay model images leaked. There is another anticipation that KTM could also launch the bike in the foreign market this year. However, the bike maker has no intention of entering our country’s big-bike market anytime soon.
