The Indian government has announced an extension of the Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme (EMPS) 2024. This scheme encourages the use of EVs and supports the EV manufacturing industry. It was originally set to end on July 31 but now will continue until September 30.
The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has increased the budget for this scheme from Rs. 500 crore to Rs. 778 crore. This means more funds are available to promote green mobility in India.
The Ministry of Heavy Industries launched the EMPS in March 2024 to support over 5,60,789 battery-powered vehicles in India. Initially, the scheme included benefits for 3,33,387 electric two-wheelers, which was later increased to 5,00,080. It also supports 60,709 electric three-wheelers like e-rickshaws and e-carts.
Customers can still enjoy subsidies on electric vehicles. The updated EMPS offers up to Rs 10,000 for two-wheelers, up to Rs 25,000 for small electric three-wheelers, and up to Rs 50,000 for large three-wheelers, promoting green mobility in the country.
