Chandigarh will not register scooters and bikes from July; the target for the current fiscal year is completed.
The Chandigarh government stopped the registration of all two-wheelers powered by internal combustion engines. The government has also decided to stop the registration of four-wheelers from December.
According to an official statement made by the UT administration, registering such vehicles would be impossible beginning in July. The registration goal for the current fiscal year is 6202 units, and as of now, purchasing and registration of 4032 two-wheelers are done by Chandigarh residents. As a result, it decided to move the deadline significantly earlier since just 2170 vehicles remain to be registered in the UT.
This regulation can create problems for ICE makers. However, most two-wheel companies have already launched their electric vehicles. However, the Chandigarh administration's decision may inspire a few additional UTs or state administrations. The city also offers a waiver on electric and hybrid vehicle road taxes to encourage electric vehicle adoption. Although Chandigarh is a small location for the two-wheelers, it can help several EV companies to grow further.
