One of the biggest Indian bike manufacturers is probably going to launch the world's first economically accessible CNG bike in FY2025. This innovative move might reform the two-wheeler market, offering financially savvy and eco-friendly options to conventional petroleum-powered bikes.
Compressed natural gas has a few advantages, and it is less expensive than petroleum. Accordingly, it offers significant expense cost savings to riders, particularly in a market with unpredictable fuel costs. Moreover, CNG burns cleaner, producing up to half less carbon monoxide and essentially lower levels of harmful pollutants than petrol. This aligns with Bajaj Auto's commitment to manageability and could add to India's emissions reduction purposes.
However, CNG infrastructure in India is limited, with fewer fuel stations than petroleum pumps. This could affect the convenience and accessibility of CNG bikes, particularly in rural areas. Additionally, concerns exist regarding performance and power limitations compared to petrol bikes, requiring careful optimisation by Bajaj Auto.
Executive director of Bajaj Rakesh Sharma said, "It will not be only one vehicle but it will be a range of vehicles across segments. We will fill up the portfolio, we may not present it in one go but the idea is to have a portfolio of CNG motorcycles," he reportedly said, adding, "It will be a vehicle, which the customer will be proud to own. It will be a different brand."
The progress of Bajaj Auto's CNG bike depends on resolving these questions genuinely. Whenever executed capably, the bike could concern the cruiser market, particularly in cost-touchy communities with a rising CNG foundation. It could attract first-time purchasers, economical riders, and earth-conscious customers.
In any case, a restricted infrastructure and potential performance means could limit its appeal, relegating it to a niche portion. Cautious statistical research, key organisations, and powerful correspondence will be crucial for Bajaj Auto to explore these challenges and expand the CNG bike’s true capacity.
