Auto Expo 2023 - India’s Largest Auto Show - What to Expect?

Auto Expo 2023, the 16th edition of Auto Expo, is all set to come back in January after a 3-year hiatus owing to the Covid-19 pandemic-related disruptions.

Auto Expo is Asia’s biggest automotive event that takes place every 2 years. It is organised by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the apex governing body of the Indian automobile manufacturing industry. SIAM works with the goal of making India the preferred location worldwide for the design and production of automobiles by encouraging sustainable development of the Indian automobile industry.

The event serves as a platform for showcasing new cars, motorcycles, scooters, concept cars, commercial vehicles, automotive technology, etc. Covid-19 limitations, however, prevented the biennial automotive event from taking place in 2022.

"Auto Expo 2023 is providing a platform to companies to showcase advancements in new generation electrified technologies and to consumers who can experience how the automobile industry has geared up for the transformation of mobility that would be carbon benign, safe and connected," said one of the organisers- Rajesh Menon, the director general of SIAM.

This year, Indian consumers may look forward to the unveiling of multiple new motorcycles, cars and other commercial vehicles. After the event, some of the new models will hit the road, and some will go on sale later in the future.

It's anticipated that both production-ready versions with internal combustion engines, as well as various greener and cleaner powertrain configurations, will be unveiled at the forthcoming Auto Expo in 2023. Here is all the information you need to know about Auto Expo 2023 before it begins.

Auto Expo 2023: Where is it happening?

Like its previous few iterations, Auto Expo 2023 will be gearing up at the India Expo Mart. The India Expo Mart is located in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, near the JP Golf Course. Simultaneously, the Auto Expo - Component Show will be hosted in Pragati Maidan in Delhi.

Brands that are Participating in Auto Expo 2023

One of the most well-known companies on the Auto Expo 2023 exhibitor list is Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), the largest manufacturer in the nation. Hyundai Motor India and Kia India, both from South Korea, will follow. Tata Motors will thereafter also grace the event with its presence. Additionally, the newest Chinese manufacturer, BYD (Build Your Dreams), as well as another Chinese automaker, MG Motor India, will be in attendance. Other exhibitors at the 2023 Auto Expo include Toyota Kirloskar Motor, Lexus India, and Volvo India. In addition, numerous EV start-ups, including Okinawa and Tork Motors, as well as well-known EV name brands, like Hero Electric, will also be present.

Brands that are Participating in Auto Expo 2023

At this year's Auto Expo, major luxury automobile manufacturers, including Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata Motors, Mahindra, Kia, Toyota, Skoda, Renault, and Nissan, will also be showing and introducing their eagerly anticipated vehicle models. This time, it's anticipated that more than 50 new automotive models will be displayed.

The number of electric scooters and bikes at Auto Expo on display at the 2023 event will also be at an all-time high. The major bike and scooter models are anticipated to feature electric bike variants to a larger extent. The majority of auto manufacturing businesses typically construct a vehicle based on a concept before doing so. As a result, the platforms at the Auto Expo serve as the primary venue for piquing public interest in the upcoming bikes, cars and other commercial vehicle models.

EV Brands that you might see at Auto Expo 2023

The Auto Expo India will feature electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers and cutting-edge start-up companies like Tork Motors, Okinawa Autotech, Hero Electric, Vayve Mobility, Log9 Materials, EL Motor, Matter Motorworks, CE Info Systems, Omjay EeVe, Autoline E-Mobility, Sibros Technologies India, Hop Electric Mobility, Devot Motors, Greaves Cotton, MTA E-Mobility, and Omega Seiki Mobility. In addition, some significant two-wheeler and four-wheeler OEMs are also set to exhibit their electrified products at the event.

Brands that are opting out from the Auto Expo 2023

After a three-year hiatus, Auto Expo Greater Noida, India's largest auto show, is finally returning. Reports indicate that this time, however, a number of major brands have opted out.

The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) oversees the Auto Expo. In order to minimise the costs, the organising team is negotiating with automakers to create unique packages that combine some of the participants. They are trying to convince some of the participants who have withdrawn because of expenses. High prices are cited as one of the main causes for skipping the event. Some brands wind up spending more than Rs 50 crores on the event.

The name of one of the largest automobile firms, the Skoda Auto-Volkswagen group, tops the list of brands that will not be present at the 2023 Auto Expo. Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, Porsche, and Lamborghini are included in this category. Further, the 2023 Auto Expo will not be attended by BMW, Citroen, Force Motors, Honda Cars India, Isuzu, Jaguar, Jeep, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Mini, Renault, and Nissan. In addition, significant two-wheeler automakers like TVS, Bajaj Auto, and Hero MotoCorp will also not attend the major auto expo.

If you’d like to further explore and learn more about the event, you can go to the Auto Expo official website. There you will be provided with the latest news & updates on the event and everything related.
