Ather Energy is working on two new platforms for its future electric vehicles. One platform, called “EL,” is designed for their new electric scooters. Moreover, the other platform, named “Zenith,” will be for Ather’s first electric motorcycles. This is exciting news because it means Ather will soon offer both new scooters and motorcycles powered by electricity. The “Zenith” platform will hold their first-ever electric bike. Meanwhile, the “EL” platform will support their future scooter models. These details were recently leaked online, showing Ather’s plans to expand in the electric vehicle market.
Ather Energy is preparing to launch an electric bike to compete with petrol bikes in the 125cc-300cc range. The company filed for its IPO and revealed in its documents that the new "Zenith" platform will be used to make these electric bikes. Moreover, the first bike is expected to be sporty and aimed at the mass market, rivalling models like the TVS Raider 125 and Hero Xtreme 125R. It will likely have smooth performance, good handling, and features like a digital display, Bluetooth, navigation, driving modes, and reverse mode.
Electric bikes are still not very popular, and there are fewer models compared to electric scooters. Motorcycles make up about 63% of the two-wheeler market. Ather Energy believes electric motorcycles could make up 10% of this market by 2030. Ather's new "EL" platform for scooters will have better technology, lower costs, and meet both local and global needs. Production at their new Aurangabad factory will start in May 2026. Ather is also developing a new battery with lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP), which will be cheaper and compatible with some current models.
Before you go, don’t forget to check out the two-wheeler segment’s growth in upcoming years.
