Most of you must already be aware of the Ather 450X Electric Scooter catching fire. The incident took place in Bangalore only a few weeks ago. But now, the company has finally responded to the situation and knows exactly what went wrong. But before we go further, you need to know that the wiring harness caught on fire, and the scooter didn’t actually blow up like in a Rohit Shetty movie. The customer is safe, and no further damages were reported.
The true cause of this unfortunate accident was traced back to an employee’s wiring harness assembly process. One of the wires was incorrectly torqued, leading to the sparkle around the motor controller terminal. However, the safety systems were soon activated to cut the power flow off and further limit the potential damage. But, the wiring harness has already caught fire. After a thorough inspection, it was confirmed that the battery, dashboard systems and BMS performed exactly how they were designed. The battery, too, remained unaffected. This truly gives us a clear picture of the company’s high-standard production protocols for its EV battery systems.
Ather Energy has issued a public statement and addressed the situation.
In the statement released by the company, they are taking full responsibility for this unfortunate incident. They further informed in the statement that they will now be taking additional steps to prevent this situation from ever happening again. The company has upgraded and enhanced its manufacturing operations by introducing a 2-step verification process, especially for the wiring harness assembly. This will definitely help reduce the risk of human error and ensure better safety and quality of Ather Energy electric scooters.
Truthfully, it seems like this was a one-off occurrence. However, the incident has highlighted the necessity of maintaining the highest levels of quality control. Ather Energy is dedicated to preserving the dependability and safety of its electric scooters and continues to give this priority in all operations.
