The 2023 Honda Scoopy, a neo-retro scooter, has been on sale in multiple South East Asian countries. The scooter has been patented in India, but its launch is still uncertain. Honda has updated this scooter for 2023 with many technological advancements and multiple colour options. So, let’s take a look at them.
Honda Scoopy will be the fifth generation scooter in Indonesia and will be offered in 4 distinct trims- Stylish, Fashion, Sporty and Prestige. The main highlight of this scooter, however, is its one-of-a-kind design. Especially its front fairly large headlight that is placed in its apron, giving it a rather distinct look.
Talking further about its look, the scooty comes with a large projector unit shaped into an oval casting, water droplets shaped turn indicators adjacent to the headlights in a fencing fashion. Furthermore, this apron also features a small protruding element for the scooter’s instrument console. Adding more to its retro appeal is the ORVMs, all cohesively working towards its rather unique design. The smooth side body panels give this upgraded scooter a rather retro look and blend the overall design of Scoopy. Scoopy will be made available in a whopping 8 distinct colours for the customers to choose from. Honda Scoopy boasts a dual-shade look with contrasting floorboard, seat, decals on either side of side panels and the apron plastic.
As for the rear side of the scooter, similar turn headlights are built, and there is also a rear grab handle neatly designed for the pillion to hold onto that flows with its seat contour rather seamlessly. Adding further to its retro appeal, the company has also added chrome-finished exhaust heat guards.
Honda has equipped its 2023 Scoopy with a host of features, including -
2023 Honda Scoopy shares multiple of its componentry with that of Activa. Similarities include single-sided swingarm, 12-14 inch wheels, swingarm-mounted engine, front telescopic forks, rear single shock absorber, and the list goes on. Apart from these, Scoopy gets front disc and rear drum brakes units and a 4.5 Litre fuel tank capacity. Scoopy will roughly weigh around 95 kgs.
This retro scooter is manufactured with a 109.5 cc single-cylinder engine, just like the Activa 6G in India. However, following the EURO 3 emission compliance and not EURO 6 (like BS6 in India), Scoopy generates 9 bhp power and 9.3N nm torque. For comparison, Activa 6G in India produces only 7.68 bhp and 8.84 Nm torque.
As mentioned earlier, Honda Scoopy entering the Indian market is rather uncertain as of now, but considering that the company has patented it, we can only hope it does. Honda only really has Grazia as their “premium” scooter offering in the market. And as seen in their December 2022 sales report, Grazia only managed to sell slightly over 2,500 units, whereas Activa sold over 175k units. Honda premium scooter offering needs to have more oomph, which we are sure Honda Scoopy retro scooter has jam-packed with it. We hope to see Scoopy hit Indian roads soon, kicking off Grazia.
