There used to be a time when Bajaj was the first choice in the scooter segment. However, Bajaj holds almost no presence in the ICE scooter market today. But with the Chetak Electric scooter, the company has entered the scooter market. In 2022, Bajaj sold over 30,000 units of Chetak in India, and this year, the number is expected to double.
And to achieve the same, Bajaj is gearing up to revamp Chetak and has managed to get a type-approval variant for 2023. And with this, we can expect the company to release a wider range. And, even though the battery capacity remains unchanged, there seem to have been a few subtle changes in software and controller algorithms. This might facilitate the brand to release higher battery range options for the users.
For MY2023, the latest Bajaj Chetak is codenamed as 2423 with only the premium variant offering. Battery specifications still remain to be unchanged, a 50.4 V 57.24 Ah battery. This battery will generate 2.480 kWh of usable battery energy.
Bajaj Chetak will not have any change with its GVW as well; it will remain to be 283 kg. Chetak’s motor doesn’t change either, with 4.0 kW of continuous power and 4.2 kW of peak power. On sea level, the new Chetak doesn’t seem all that different. The new model will boast a range of 108 without needing to recharge. In the eco mode, it can cover 90 km, and in sports mode, it can easily cover 80 km. Both ranges are certified by AIS 040.
In terms of dimensions, the new Bajaj Chetak is identical to the outgoing model. Therefore, we anticipate that Chetak will maintain its positive attributes, such as its metallic body, IP67-rated batteries, 12” alloy wheels with tubeless tyres, soft-touch switchgear with backlighting, 18L boot space, 4L glove box, LED lighting, and keyless operation.
We hope Bajaj offers a TFT touchscreen display with Chetak 2423 Premium in order to compete with Ather, Ola, TVS iQube, and Hero Vida. However, with a variety of features and gimmicks, Bajaj needs to concentrate more on courting a younger, tech-savvy audience. Additionally, the firm website needs to be updated to be more clearly and completely describe its offering.
The new Bajaj Chetak 2023 model’s price should be the same as the outgoing model’s. This comes in 4 colours and costs Rs. 1,54,189 (ex-sh). They are Velluto Rosso, HazelNut, Indigo Metallic, and Brooklyn Black. The launch could happen soon. As for the Urbane edition, there is a chance that it will be reintroduced in the future with the aforementioned features and gimmicks.
