A vintage Harley-Davidson motorcycle brought a record price of Rs 7.7 crore when it was auctioned off. Harley-Davidson produced 450 motorcycles in 1908, including the Strap Tank. Since then, just 10 to 12 motorcycles are still in existence. The majority of them were demolished throughout the course of the year, and incredibly private people now own those that remained. It is very unusual to locate one after 110 years that is still in perfect functioning order.
A little information regarding the H-D Strap Tank and what makes it so admirable is the fact that it is almost a century old and in perfect working condition. The reason for the name is that the main frame and gasoline tank are actually fastened together with nickel straps. Paul Freehill has meticulously restored this unusual motorcycle to its pre-restoration condition. As a result, it was sold for a record price.
Other than the fact that it is a vintage model, all of the components on this motorcycle are real, from the strap to the belt-pulley in the engine to the tyres, everything. You can trace every single little feature back to the original construction. In connection with that, the first one-story factory where Harley-Davidson was founded produced the Strap Tank motorcycle.
Mecum Auction sold this remarkable Harley Davidson 1908 Strap Tank in Las Vegas, Nevada. One of the few original motorcycle brands to have survived two Great Depression was Harley-Davidson. Indian Motorcycles, its main opponent, is another company that has endured the test of time.
Motorcycles from the past have always been popular, especially with private collectors. So it is no surprise that his genuine motorcycle brought such a high price. The vintage Vincent Black Lightning was sold at auction earlier in 2018 for $929,000. (equivalent to Rs 7.6 crore as per the current market).
