Harley-Davidson Bikes in India May Soon Get Cheaper: Here’s Why?

The possibility of a significant price reduction for Harley-Davidson motorbikes is fantastic news for Harley fans in India. The Indian government is reportedly thinking about eliminating customs taxes on imported motorcycles, such as Harley-Davidson models. Check the full news here.

What’s the Objective Behind This?

The main goal is to help big US brands like Harley Davidson enter the Indian market more easily. It would expand upon previous budget cuts that lowered tariffs from 50% to 40% on bikes up to 1600cc. The high-capacity bikes only make up a small portion of India's almost 16 million yearly motorbike sales. As a result, there should be little effect on domestic manufacturers.

Good News For Harley-Davidson Bikes

Harley-Davidson Bikes Harley-Davidson would benefit greatly from the tariff reduction if it is granted. The company has historically struggled to make headway in India's price-conscious market. Despite shutting down its domestic production in 2020, the company is still active due to a distribution agreement with Hero MotoCorp.

In addition, a zero-duty policy may lower the cost of high-end motorcycles by as much as 30%. As a result, it will spark interest from buyers and revitalise Harley's India strategy.

Tariff Relief for Other Brands Too!

Indian premium bike enthusiasts may benefit from the proposed policy amendments. According to sources, motorbikes with engines larger than 750cc may be subject to the new regulations. Global companies like Harley-Davidson, BMW Motorrad, and Ducati are included in this category.

These expensive bikes are currently subject to significant import taxes, which may range from 50% to 100%. As a result, many Indian customers are still unable to purchase them. If the proposed rule is accepted, it may significantly lower the cost of these high-end motorcycles, increasing the opportunity for aficionados to acquire their ideal vehicles.
